Soda now allowed in bottles?

We are boarding the Magic in Pt. Canavaral next Saturday and I just received a information sheet from our travel agent with some last minute reminders about our cruise. She said we may now take soda on in bottles, but max of 12 per person, 20 oz. or less. Has this changed from the cans only that was allowed before? We do prefer our Coke & Sprite in the plastic 16 ofr 20 oz. bottles as you can cap them back up and they don't go flat.

According to the FAQs:

Prohibited Items

Alcohol (hard liquor) and Beer

Wine or champagne (sealed, unopened bottles brought on at embarkation) beyond the allowable limit of one 750 ml bottle per adult (21 years of age or older)

Non-alcoholic beverages in containers other than a can or carton; excessive quantities per person (over 12 cans/cartons per person); excessive size per can/carton (over 12 ounces each)

Sorry, your TA is passing along outdated information.

From Carnival's website:

"A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought onboard on embarkation day and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person."

Just came off a cruise yesterday…. tons of people had bottles of water and soda and they all got thrown out. They were even opening the 12pack of canned sodas and taking each can out and inspecting them. Tons of people said they had received misinformation from TAs

An excellent example of why you should either book directly online or use a PVP. I haven't used a TA in 15 years. If you need to use one, then at least find one that is a cruise specialist. There are good ones out there.

Was on triumph this past week and there were several people who had small bottle coke ad diet coke. I asked DH if they changed it again and he said looks that way or else they wouldn't have them onbboard. Wish they would bring back the old way.

Exactly. Making them look bad. I mean seriously. The "new" policy is not so new anymore.

And for the record, PVPs give out bad information too.

And that seems to apply to all lines.

The problem is that there is no consistency with the security at the ports. As a TA, I told my clients they could not bring on bottles of water so they did not. People in front of them and to the sides were allowed to bring on bottles of water. Now my clients are asking why I told them they could not. This was at Port Canaveral in January. You just can't win.

I think you should tell your clients the actual rules. If they choose to try, that's on them. Last week in Galveston, I watched them take bottles. They had buckets of confiscated bottles. And they opened our 12 pack of Coke cans and checked every one.

We brought plastic bottles of coke products in our carry on luggage last Oct 2015 when boarding in Galveston . I completely forgot about the new rule until we were already in line at the port .

Our luggage was opened and the soda bottles were checked, we were let thru.

None were confiscated. We were allowed to go on the ship with our Cokes.

I do believe it depends on the ppl you have checking your luggage as to whether or not you'll be able to get keep your bottled sodas.

Since we were given clearance, I wasn't going to complain.

However, for our next cruise in May, I will not chance it.

I will be packing cans of soda (I always taken them out of the box and put them in my carry on luggage individually).

Looks like the information says you can't take bottles on, however, we have always taken bottles on. Every port I have bought a bottle or 2 of diet coke and never had it taken away or even had anyone take a second look at it. Guess I will look for cans next time.
