Booked thru CAS, what to expect?

Wifey and I are booked on the Getaway thru Casino House (CAS) based on my play on our last cruise. I've heard of perks such as private parties, chocolate strawberries/champagne in cabin, specialty dinners w/wine, refreshment area at the terminal, etc. I'll be fine with a welcome note in the cabin, but what could we receive?

I was offered a free slot tournament entry as part of the deal, but have received no communications from CAS since booking.

Nothing much. There is a CAS check-in line (far left side) which will help you past the crowds in the terminal. Nothing else in the terminal until you get on board.

On board, you will have a letter in your cabin with your players card and drink card (for both you and wifey). The letter you will invite you to a rum punch sail away. If you already have the UBP, the casino drink card will allow you to get free bottled water, energy drinks, and specialty coffee at the Casino bar (only) during operating hours.

Nominally, you will get goodies from the casino 3 times during the cruise. Normally some chocolates, cheese, a bowl of fruit (left overs from the buffet), or plate of cookies (also left over from the buffet).

If you made it to a Gold Level or Black VIP level during your last cruise, you will get a dining credit and spa credit. If you are a Green or Red player, you get the room provided by the casino.

You get a room comp based on your play. Could be anything from an inside room up through a Havens room.

Specific benefits based on your tier level can be found at https://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/casino-cruise/players-club (Top Tier Black VIP is equivalent to $175,000 in slot or table play on your 2015 cruises - 17.5 million pennies)

In your cabin will be a card good for free drinks in the casino.

The slot tournament invite is probably to their TournEvent which is by invitation only. You'll receive more details in your cabin or else in the CAS check-in line.

Of course the numbers above are amounts played through the machine and have nothing to do with the actual cash inserted into the machine unless you lose every single spin.

I'm a tables girl, so I've learned to be sure they input your information every time you buy in. Buy in with $$ instead of chips, and put away your winnings for later. Rebuy with cash always. They finally got my information correct on my last cruise and I was diligent about it.

Golden gives you $100 in food/beverage credit and Hot gives you $75. Golden and above means you don't pay the 3% on charging your casino $$ to your cabin.

It's all good :)

Bird travels is correct with the amount of money needed to play through a slot machine to reach VIP level(35,000 points). Tables though are totally different. The games all have different house edges, which in turn determines how many points are earned for money played. Cruise line slots will have a house edge of anywhere between 5-30%, a perfect player a BJ will lower that house edge to less than .5%. Example, I played mostly BJ and craps on my March cruise and earned just shy of 15,000 points. I played between 1.2-1.4 million dollars to get the points. It is nice playing with their money for an entire cruise.

Thanks to everyone for your input. We had a terrific time on our first cruise with NCL and decided that we would be better off remaining loyal to one line and enjoy the perks.

I don't play with a large bankroll, but on one bank of four identical slots in one night I hit at least a dozen progressives. We ended up down about a $1000 for the week, but were happy to see that my play got us a comped inside and a free slot tournament entry for me.

I was very surprised that I got any offer at all from CAS. I forgot to check our points level before we disembarked and didn't expect that either of us would have enough to amount to anything. I've surrendered a substantial amount of cash to the Tampa Hard Rock Casino over the years and got very little in return.

Wait until about 3-4 days after you get off and you can get your points by either calling or emailing CAS.

Happy that you enjoyed your NCL experience. If you keep cruising and playing with NCL, CAS with comp a trip on almost any ship/itinerary you want (except Hawaii which has no casino). You will away pay taxes and the admin fee (but they are small for 7 nights of floating hotel and all the food you can eat).

I missed that you were in the TournEvent slot tournament. There will be a special sailaway party for tournament players. Nothing fancy. Wine and rum punch (but you can try asking for other drinks). Usually in Fat Cats or one of the clubs. Mostly the executive casino host going over the events of the week. And introducing his/her staff.

CAS Tip: The executive casino host is the most important person you can interact with on the ship. Prior to muster, go down to the player's club desk and introduce yourself as a tournament player (you need to register for the tournament prior to sailing anyways). Build up a relationship with them so they know your name and face. Any time you enter the casino and see them, give them a wave. Stop and tell them what a great time you are having. On the last night of the cruise, when others are "cashing in their points at the players club window", that host may be willing to comp additional charges off your room bill.

Enjoy the Getaway. The experience will be totally different than the Star. Rope courses, water slides, big Broadway shows. Don't miss the newly installed Million Dollar Quartet (a GREAT show that opened on the Getaway a couple of weeks ago) and Burn the Floor. For a few extra bucks (which could get comped), the Illsionarium is a fun dinner/magic show. And if you want to splurge, for $200 pp, a week in the thermal suite spa is wonderful. (Prior to sailaway, take 10 minutes to walk through the spa,,,, even if you are not going to drop the cash for a week pass).

I see that you're doing a mid-week Sky also. That is a fun ship. We have done a three of 3-day weekend Sky trips (just because you only need to take a Friday afternoon and Monday morning off of work, and still get a nice cruise out of it).

I was just wondering about that. I take it there is no place online that you can look up yourself what your current tier level, point status, etc is? Although we have booked several cruises with varying comps I never thought to ask about current status. If emailing or calling is the only way to get it then I will give it a shot. Thanks!

We're also booked through CAS, but with a discounted not complimentary cruise, balcony. I only expect to use the CAS terminal check-in line and receive our drink cards in the room. Should I really receive or be offered more than that?

In December we're booked in an inside using a land casino cruise offer, as I have previously and expect the same. We've never gotten snacks and I don't recall a sailaway offer, just the art show invites.

Usually all casino guests (CAS or Caesars), will get a letter invite to the sailaway rum punch gathering. Nothing more than waiters with rum punch in the casino area.

Room goodies start when you get to a red "Hot" level (see link below). Usually 3 times on a 7 day cruise. Again,,,, nothing real fancy,,,, candies, cookies, fruit, cheeses. On some ships, they will ask you want you want. Others, it just comes.

We have done about a dozen balcony NCL cruises from land-based (CET) casinos. After learning more about the process here on CC, I've called CAS directly after the last couple of cruises. Was offered a Ocean-View, then an Inside (after a winning cruise), and then another Ocean-view. I'm playing less $$ than I spend in Las Vegas but getting the next cruise directly from CAS now. Happy to redirect a portion of my gambling $$ to NCL and enjoy an Ocean-view:D Cruising 4 to 5 times a year now!

Thanks for the responses. I have two NCL cruises this year so maybe I get to Hot and will see if things change. At this point I'm happy with a discount or certificate and a drink card.

Actually I received strawberries and a bottle of wine last cruise, but thought it was due to some feedback I gave at a MDR. A nice gesture, regardless of the reason.

Depending on the port sailed, one might get (like NYC) exclusive/dedicated VIP check-in for casino guests (similar to being Platinum) and early/priority boarding - in recognition of your player status.

Welcome letter in the stateroom with the invitation to a reception for players (embarkation day) - drink cards for each adult in the stateroom (while playing, good only in the casino ... we got soda, juice, bottled water & non-alcoholic drinks). Unless you are already Platinum, the bottle of sparking wine & chocolate-covered strawberries are send from the casino host ... should be a little signed "card" from CAS (plus, extra "gifts or surprises" possibly from your land-based casino, things like specialty dinner for 2)

Another tip: Visit the On-Board Casino Host and have them "merge" you and your wifey's Players Club into one "master" collection. This is only possible if both Player's Club will be charging the same credit card assigned to the stateroom but it is a great way to accumulate more points.

This is true even if you're not playing in a tournament. You need to get yourself known to the casino hosts, interact with them, and build that relationship. It definitely pays off.
