cruise wizard Posted June 8, 2016 #101 Share Posted June 8, 2016 It would be nice to have RCCL upgrade their TV channels............give me US ESPN, ESPN2, Fox News, CNBC on Caribbean cruises and I am a happy camper. I just want to keep up on the news, weather, sports and my 401K. I can understand signal outages at sea but not when you are in a major port and this happens a lot!!! NO SIGNAL and you are in San Juan????? So RCCL - if you are reading this thread - you have my votes.
jsausley Posted June 8, 2016 #102 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Something I'd wish they'd have is music on the TV. I'd like to be able to turn on some soft music while relaxing or preparing for sleep in the cabin. Maybe for the background they could just show the ship sailing. (They kind of do this on some ships with the channel that shows bow-cam, but there's only one music choice and sometimes it's like Caribbean steel drum -- not what I want before bedtime.) ched999uk Posted June 8, 2016 #103 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Going on European cruise soon and keeping my fingers crossed they will show the F1 but I doubt it. :( Probably expensive for the right to show but would be nice to even see highlights. Sorry to burst your bubble -- no F1. I'm a huge fan. Thankfully, you can now stream video NBC Sports if you're from the US.

UK resident, so no NBC. In UK delayed highlights are on Channel 4 (C4) for all races and live coverage for 50% of races, C4 is a 'free' channel. I say 'free' as you are required to have a tv licence but it's not a subscription service. Full F1 is by subscription to SKY. Looking forward to this weekends Canadian GP. Weather changeable so could be good.
time4u2go Posted June 8, 2016 #106 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) They really have no incentive for them to improve their TV programming. It probably costs them more for better programming. Also, when people are in their rooms watching TV, they're not out spending money at the bars and in the casino. And it's not as if people aren't cruising with them because of the TV programming. twocc's Posted June 9, 2016 #109 Share Posted June 9, 2016 It would be nice to have ABC NBC and CBS. Also news channels other than CNN. Viewing better TV programs would add to our cruise experience. There is plenty of time for spending through out the cruise. Charles and Connie
A2Mich Posted June 9, 2016 #110 Share Posted June 9, 2016 I would much prefer to have BBC or BBC America for news and other programming....don't care too much for the "news" on the major networks. YMMV
free2cruise Posted June 9, 2016 #111 Share Posted June 9, 2016 I agree. Wish they had better tv. Last year we did a TA on HAL. They had DVD players in the rooms and you could go to front desk and check out movies for free. They had a movie theatre and provided popcorn. We enjoyed going to the movies in the afternoons . On our Serenade cruise, during a sea day, we wanted to go to the cinema. Got there 20 minutes early and could not find a seat. Pax had already been in there for over an hour to secure a seat. Why could they not show that movie on cabin TV also? :(

MCC retired Posted June 9, 2016 #114 Share Posted June 9, 2016 We alternate cruising between our favorite cruise lines , Princess , Cunard , Carnival , Holland America , Disney and RCI . Most recent cruise aboard the Serenade . The TV selections on other cruise lines are far and away better than RCI . Of course who books a cruise to watch TV , but RCI selections are sad . Panda3 Posted June 9, 2016 #115 Share Posted June 9, 2016 One of the values (if you can call t that) of having decent TV channels is following news, sports and weather while cruising. Princess gives you a local channel and a decent news channel at least--Royal gives neither. It is funny that the very same people who seem to be deeply interested in internet speeds and service will say they don't need nor watch TV on a cruise. Electronic entertainment takes many forms and one is not 'better' than any other unless that is what YOU like it seems. Well I do agree with that--the best is whatever I prefer<sheepish grin> Lol, you are right. Everyone is all down on TV (devil horns) but they have to have the fastest internet to live broadcast their cruise and post selfies
biomedbob Posted June 9, 2016 #116 Share Posted June 9, 2016 We've always wondered why we have 24/7 several networkd in Spanish of soccer. I guess they always have lots of fans who wouldn't watch some USA networks of news.

malprl Posted June 10, 2016 #119 Share Posted June 10, 2016 I add the TV issue on every survey. We had better selections on a river boat in France with 125 people than on RCCL in the Caribbean. Obviously, RCCL is my favorite line and it's not a deal breaker, but it would be GREAT if they listened. We use our laptops and VOOM so we're connected. (Helped us watch our favorite teams during March Madness. They would show 1 or 2 games, but not always our teams). We like to watch while we're getting ready for dinner or when we have an early evening.

I understand I cannot watch all the games while traveling on a cruise, but getting the scores via a sports news channel would be great. I do like CNN or Headline CNN news. The CNN international channel is just okay because the US news is not very extensive.

The river boat in France has none of the technical challenges and associated costs in receiving multiple tv channels that sea-going cruise ships would face if they were to try to duplicate this level of coverage in the Caribbean. flag fan Posted June 10, 2016 #123 Share Posted June 10, 2016 Okay -- I've resisted posting as long as I can. A pet peeve of mine is all the posters who write about how they don't go on a cruise to watch tv. Why does anyone feel compelled to write about what they don't do on a cruise. I wouldn't think about posting on a board about the new water slides that I don't go on a cruise to go on water slides or about available beers and wines, I don't go on a cruise to drink beer or drink wine. Obviously, no one goes on a cruise to watch television. It is just one of the options for something to do between doing other things--some people like to sit in a cabin watching tv or movies (or reading or sleeping or whatever) between shore excursions, deck parties, shows, meals, massages, bar hopping, sunning on the deck, etc., etc., etc. It sounds like the tv selections on Royal Caribbean are pretty lame. That is disappointing as (FWIW) I do watch tv every now and then on a cruise. (I'll resist listing all the things I don't do because why would anyone care.)
