kevinyork Posted June 23, 2016 Author #126 Share Posted June 23, 2016 I hope you are correct about the "tweaking". We saw 3 of the unremarkable shows on the Eclipse in March, but if these shows are getting standing ovations as was posted earlier on one cruise, I don't know how they would know if there is an issue for many of the guests. Time will tell. I don't know how the new Eclipse shows could have got standing ovations at all given when we saw them people gave polite applause only. There cannot be that much difference in audiences between sailings surely? My fear is Celebrity will avoid the issue having spent so much money on them evidenced by them posting themselves on here saying the shows have received rave reviews. From whom? sheffield Posted June 23, 2016 #127 Share Posted June 23, 2016 On the Eclipse at the moment and saw the rock show a couple of nights ago. There was applause but no standing ovation at the 8:30 performance. One of the male singers had a great voice, the 2 other men were ok. Unfortunately the female singers were not very good, just a lot of shrieking. We did stay for the whole show, were tempted at times to leave but decided to stick it out. In general, quality of entertainment from cafe, bar performers is just ok. That however is just my opinion.

SuiteTraveler Posted June 23, 2016 #129 Share Posted June 23, 2016 Oh dear indeed! We sail on the Eclipse this month on the 19th. Suggestions please as to what to do instead...I do like the idea of sitting on the balcony...but not every night! Yikes The martini bar is always entertaining and you could go wine tasting or just for a walk around the ship. There's the casino. There is usually a pianist in the sky lounge and some other music in the ensemble lounge. Some nights they have dance parties and most nights they show a movie at 11pm. I'm sure you will find some things to do. I am afraid that Celebrity is mistaking people walking out of these shows for standing ovations.

LuvCruzn4Evr Posted June 24, 2016 #131 Share Posted June 24, 2016 We've avoided production shows for years but decided to go to Topper on Eclipse in March. If we had not been in the middle of a row we would have walked out. When they did the number towards the end with the f-bomb repeated multiple times a lot of people did walk out. We were on the Eclipse for 14 nts departing 3/6/16 and went to Topper. Actually, it was one of our favorites and we never heard the f-bomb, that night nor in January either! Guess we were deaf??? Can't believe X would condone this.
LuvCruzn4Evr Posted June 24, 2016 #132 Share Posted June 24, 2016 So good to know the song that a poster was referring to with the f-bomb word was Bruno Mars's Uptown Funk...NOT the f-bomb word!!! We'll be on the Eclipse again and are looking forward to seeing Topper again...different strokes for different folks :D:D:D

It was about time X moved its shows into the 21st century and away from the cliche musical and Cirque stuff. The negative reviews on here are probably because of the older, 30+ cruises "everything must stay the same" crowd than because of the shows are actually being bad. I mean, if you don't know Bruno Mars and actually think he sings "f***" as opposed to funk - seriously?! :) Edited June 24, 2016 by florisdekort
iandjm Posted June 24, 2016 #135 Share Posted June 24, 2016 I'm a club / bar DJ in the UK and have experienced the new shows. Although it is nice to have some more up to date music in the shows, the complete lack of story makes the whole experience seem pointless. Watching performers going in and out of doors on stage taking about a chandelier then singing random songs was tedious at best. And as for a top hat.... well enough said. As much as the older shows were the same old they seemed to work far better.... in my opinion.
Cruise a holic Posted June 24, 2016 #136 Share Posted June 24, 2016 I think that the issue is all about the buck. Celebrity no longer wants to spend it on entertainment-in addition for other reviews the ships seem to have less staff. Hopefully they will realize that overall in might negatively impact their bottom line. Perhaps they will change.

This isn't about regular cruisers not liking change its about a change for the worst being implemented. The shows were not modern luxury and I have no idea how they fit into Celebrity's brand image at all. There were lots of more recent songs included in the shows but they were just unconnected and irrelevant to the non-story. Really enjoyed him in his own show as well. We'll just have wait till Jan. to judge the new shows. The Topper one seems interesting. Lots of times it takes quite a while to work the kinks out. Dunk Posted June 25, 2016 #139 Share Posted June 25, 2016 OMG you are my spirit animal, soul mate. Totally agree. I second that! Although I appreciate the athletic prowess, I fail to see why someone spinning on a silk garners a standing o. My husband calls them "stupid human tricks". :D

phoenix_dream Posted June 26, 2016 #143 Share Posted June 26, 2016 Have not had the 'pleasure' of seeing any of the new shows yet. I will add a glimmer of hope for some. On our recent Millie B2B (5/12 and 5/20) the productions shows were bleh, but the live entertainment and the guest entertainers were excellent - possibly the best guest entertainers we have ever seen on a Celebrity cruise (and I think this was our 30th and 31st if memory serves). The guitar player who played primarily Rendezvous was outstanding. I would literally pay to see him perform if he toured in our area.

aquanaut1 Posted July 2, 2016 #146 Share Posted July 2, 2016 We are switching back to X this year from RC as too many kids ex uk on RC, and it's just too rammed . We are travelling with two young children aged 10/6 who were really looking forward to the evening entertainment ... It's a shame the cirque show gas gone as they were particularly looking forward to that one . Sailing on the 26/8 so let's hope they've sorted out the tweaks Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Cruise a holic Posted July 2, 2016 #147 Share Posted July 2, 2016 Interesting that you are switching to Celebrity, when IMO a 10/6 year old would much prefer RC. While I am a strong Celebrity fan, and do with family with kids always go on RC either the Freedom or Oasis class, the entertainment on Celebrity is amature compared to RC. We do not love Celebrity for the entertainment, but for it's many other "adult" features. Enjoy
iancal Posted July 2, 2016 #148 Share Posted July 2, 2016 (edited) We seldom bother with the production shows any more. They all seem the same and the quality has gone downhill. Not just Celebrity either. HAL, Princess, RCI, etc are no better. Same old, same old. Edited July 2, 2016 by iancal
aquanaut1 Posted July 3, 2016 #149 Share Posted July 3, 2016 My kids love RC but are looking forward to a change . Even they thought the RC ship last time was totally kiddy overrun . ( adventure) . My two , as long as they have each other will have a ball . They always do , The kids club is Just a bonus . And if it's quieter than last time a real winner . And the shows are just an added extra ...my eldest loves any entertainment , so even if it's a bit Ropey she will be happy . And the six year old is happy as long as they're serving snails and crab at dinner ... !! Besides booking rules in the UK are v different from USA , once booked can't change without penalties . So eclipse it is , and we are very very much looking forward to it . Dodgy shows n all !!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Jo42 Posted July 3, 2016 #150 Share Posted July 3, 2016 They will love it Aquanaut. My Daughter, now 25, has been sailing Celebrity since she was a teenager. The holiday will be what you make it as a family -that's what we've always found. We've had many a laugh during X's entertainment :D:D PS I think we're on the same cruise!
