Cruiseoholic000 Posted July 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2016 I have a wide brim beach hat I love to wear to the beach. It is not convenient or practicable to pack it for my cruise trips. Does anyone have any recommendations for a fashionable portable hat that blocks out the sun as I have fair skin?
awhfy Posted July 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2016 Walleroos or Scalia are good & pack easily. I love my Walleroos

Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2016 I'm not a hat wearer, but a couple of friends have these ribbon crusher hats for travel and they look very cute & pack well. The brim is shapeable. They come in many different colors if you search on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Protective-Packable-Striped-Travel-Brim/dp/B009P9G7QS/ref=sr_1_8?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1467607862&sr=1-8&nodeID=2474936011&keywords=packable+ribbon+hats
Rare Scrapnana Posted July 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 4, 2016 I have one of these crushable seagrass hats. You can roll it up and put it in your suitcase. It has been around the world with me and still looks like new.
collegegirl92 Posted July 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2016 I've been wondering the same thing when I travel. I have very pale skin and I start getting a sunburn after 15 minutes outside, would love to find a hat I could pack so my scalp isn't burnt. hrhdhd Posted July 4, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2016 I have a couple of hats like this one. It does have an open top, so you'd have to watch your hair part in the sun. As you can see, it rolls into a compact bundle. http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/my6dn89rSKUnSGjiFuW3BIQ.jpg

It rolls up and fits great in my suitcase and then resumes it's shape when unrolled. It's also size adjustable by the ribbon.
Cruiseoholic000 Posted July 11, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted July 11, 2016 I have been eyeing the following hat. The brim is big as to cover your full face and neck. The price is a little high for what I was looking for. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UVVTHI4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2ZG6PLXR58YD5&coliid=I2H6EZ0698SY0D&psc=

mousey Posted July 13, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 13, 2016 I usually wear my straw hat on the plane and take it off and put it on top of my carry-on in the luggage bin when I get on the plane. I put it back on when I take it out of the bin at the end of the flight. This works well for me as it covers up bad hair after the flight. I love the Scalia hats. They are always well-priced at TJ Maxx. I've got several of them in various styles and colors. They last forever! Some of them have adjustable drawstrings inside the hat. Hope you find what you're looking for and have an awesome trip!
Sauer-kraut Posted July 20, 2016 #19 Share Posted July 20, 2016 Travelsmith has some really great packable wide brimmed hats. If you can hit a sale you can really save a lot of money.
margeecruiser Posted July 20, 2016 #20 Share Posted July 20, 2016 I love my big sun hats. Mine are from Wallaroo, Boulder, Colorado. They have a string in the inside band that allows you to customize the fit. I have white and black. I sometimes put a flower or decorations on them, especially in the Caribbean. The best decision I ever made was to pack them in my suitcase without trying to find a "packable or crushable " hat that really did come back into shape without creases. I stack my 2 hats with my DH's 1, then put them upside down and then pack soft things around them such as panties and pajamas. I fold my bras (foam cups) and they just fit inside the crown of the hat. No more creased, crushed hats. I've spent plenty on the so-called packable and crushable hats and was disappointed with the results. I once saw a well-dressed woman going through an airport with two different hats stacked on her head. They were straw with decorations on them. She looked silly, but I thought she had guts and I thought "you go, girl". Margee Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

Langley Cruisers Posted July 20, 2016 #22 Share Posted July 20, 2016 I found a crushable beach hat in the garden clearance aisle of Target. Nice - I think now is the time to start looking for these as they start to clear out summer stock in preparation for autumn decor and such.
