Mac4YYZ Posted July 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2016 Resort and a hotel are two different things. Cruising has never been cheaper. Yet people still whine.
Cruiser 4 Life 66 Posted July 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 5, 2016 For "safety and security" reasons my heinie. It's all to do with $$$$$$$$$$$$$ reasons. How many cruise ships have been blown up because someone walked on with a water bottle? Every port of call I always buy some bottled water and bring it back on. Never an issue with any line. Won't be cruising with NCL anymore.

I happen to enjoy a good w(h)ine! Usually with just cause, but not in every case. :p By the way, there's an even bigger thread on this subject elsewhere - seems a shame to duplicate (and water down) the fruit of everyone's opinion on the subject. ;) AMF

WK-Orlando Posted July 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 5, 2016 Lately NCL has not exactly been the winner on price and after the last couple a yawn cruises, my family was not exactly making them a priority in our searches. After this little stunt, we are just going to drop them altogether. Def a $$$ issue with them. I do not drink alcohol or much soda, so the canned tea drinks I carry on are the only thing I have outside of water which I just take in the buffet. If this is enough money for them to play this game, will take my money elsewhere. If everyone remembers the interview that their CEO did awhile back on the news (long story) he was very clear that the bar was a major revenue source and basically let it be known that non-power drinkers were not very desirable customers. HarpHarp Posted July 5, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 5, 2016 How many resorts allow outside food and beverages? Disney World does, both at their resorts & parks. Universal does also. Any of the beach resorts in St Thomas will. Which resorts don't?
Fido Chuckwagon Posted July 5, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) How many resorts allow outside food and beverages? I can think of no resorts whatsoever that ban people from bringing bottled water to their rooms. It's a ridiculous policy. Hell, for that matter I can think of no resorts that ban their guests from bringing alcohol to their rooms, or food, or anything that isn't weapons or drugs really. Hell, for that matter I can think of no resorts that ban their guests from bringing alcohol to their rooms, or food, or anything that isn't weapons or drugs really. And even when it comes to weapons or drugs they don't search their guests so how are they going to find out? Heck, if the resort is all inclusive and the guest brings their own drinks it saves the resort money:).
msears101 Posted July 6, 2016 #12 Share Posted July 6, 2016 I support the ban. The low cruise fares that NCL has are at a loss. It requires you buy other things. I support their model. I applaud it. It allows people who could not otherwise afford it be able to come. Coke people - switch to another line. Smugglers - too bad. Go sober or pony up money. Water people, Water is free on the boat along with ice tea and coffee. Drink any of those. The ice tea is quite nice. You can still bring an empty water container - fill it with water once on board. I am a drinker, and I pay and gladly tip my favorites at the end of the cruise. The beverage staff survive on the drink service charges. I am not going to rip them off. pugdad1 Posted July 6, 2016 #14 Share Posted July 6, 2016 I've only cruised with Celebrity, where EVERYTHING is included in the bev pkg. The UBP of NCL seems anything but "ultimate".

NMLady Posted July 6, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 6, 2016 Bottled water is free? Poster didn't say 'bottled' water was free on ship, said water was free. It is, ship water is free in the buffet, in dining rooms, from cabin's sink tap. Problem is, for some people ship water causes swelling of extremities. For those with CAS drink card, bottled water is free in casino.
USNUZULOOSE Posted July 6, 2016 #17 Share Posted July 6, 2016 IMHO, all the lines will eventually do this to stop smuggling. I don't have a problem with buying a soda package if I feel it is worth it. Or just buy one soda if I really want one. I find some water taste can be bad. But I would not pay the price they want. I think they need to rethink the price.
ECCruise Posted July 6, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 6, 2016 Cruising has never been cheaper. Yet people still whine. In what world? We've been on 62 cruises (around 700 days) since 1999 and cruises today are MORE expensive than in that entire time frame. In some cases, double what they were just 4 or 5 years ago. I guess if you sail unpopular and hard to sell itineraries which are over represented there maybe some value there (but not cheaper) but if you want anything even remotely unique, hold on to your wallet. Seems I am paying at least 1/3 more for my groceries now than in the past 3 years. My utilities keep going up .... of course cruise fares will not remain static. I've gotten a raise in 2014 so of course my employers spendatures have gone up. Cruise is MORE reasonable now than it was back in the 70's and 80's when adjusting for inflation. JAMESCC Posted July 6, 2016 #25 Share Posted July 6, 2016 Just read a story on the USA Today and it not only mentioned how pissed people are on cruise critic, but they published the price of water on NCL ships. Yes they actually talked about cruise critic, and the price of water on he ships. I was quite amazed actually. This new policy doesn't effect me because I like as few a bags to bring with us and beverages would add to those bags obviously, but I do like to take a bottle of water with me for boarding. Its nice to have something to drink while boarding the ship. That is the only thing that will effect me personally but I certainly understand people being very P-oed over this. I don't blame anyone for being upset.
