tbyrd79 Posted July 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2016 So after watching Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, my son is in love with the idea of going on a cruise. My wife and I are happy to oblige and are looking to book something on the Celebrity Summit for the last Bermuda sailing of the season (August 28). Any tips for how long I should wait to book for the best deal?
Rare villauk Posted July 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2016 I haven't checked the inventory for your particular cruise, but I would keep an eye on it. Mainly because if you want a 3 or 4 berth cabin, they can sometimes be far and few between in the last minute deals. Many of the super deals are only for 2 pax per cabin, even though there may be staterooms that hold more, it all depends on current numbers already booked i.e. maximum capacity ;). Xport Posted July 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2016 And if you are relatively indifferent as to cabin category [recognizing that some of the offers are for guaranties], I suggest you check Celebrity's "Exciting Deals" listing weekly... You'll find it here... http://www.creative.rccl.com/Sales/Exciting_Deals/XcitingDeals_cel_tues.pdf This week's listing has offerings for the 24 July and 31 July Summit sailings to Bermuda [which may or may not be sold out by now]... The weekly "Exciting Deals" list--if there is one--is generally available online on Sunday night/Monday morning with related sale of those deals beginning on Tuesday and lasting for two/three days while supply lasts... If you see something that appeals, act quickly--first Tuesday--as sometimes offerings sell out in a "flash"...

If you find something you like keep checking their web site to see if they open it up early. This past March I found a steal on a transatlantic, on their sister line, Celebrity on Friday. I kept checking and was able to book it that Monday morning.

He keeps saying they have games, I think he is referring to the casino (or shuffleboard)!

He keeps saying they have games, I think he is referring to the casino (or shuffleboard)! wow....Carnival has arcade games....I don't know about Celebrity. And I have seen ping pong and miniature golf. What that movie didn't feature (as I remember) was the youth programs that most all cruise lines feature. He should really enjoy those (you too). They also have fun nights planned for the kids where the arcade is free to a particular age group for certain hours. Be sure to carefully look over the information placed in your stateroom each night.

What I was trying to say is that Celebrity usually post their Xciting deals early, maybe their sister line does the same. Since a lot of the deals are limited number of cabins, if they open it up early maybe you can beat the rush and get the one you want.
zoncom Posted July 5, 2016 #14 Share Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) I see Aug 14 starting at $799 and Aug 28 at $899 on a large discount cruise agency with a 90 day out list. Those Summit cruises seem to have best pricing upon opening; in 400s. Its late, watch this weeks Xciting deals. for last chance at a deal. Celebrity seems to only go up in month prior to sail. fleckle Posted July 5, 2016 #15 Share Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) Additionally if you qualify for any special category discounted pricing (e.g., military, interline, resident) check those rates, as well as travel agency group rates. Then for each cruise it is a matter of determining whether it is more advantageous for you to pay the regular price with the perks, or take the discounted price without the perks. For those who do not want a beverage package, there are often some great deals available, mainly on the cruises that still have a lot of availability close to the departure date. If you give your booking to a travel agent, the TA will usually throw in some perks even if you are not getting any from the cruise line, especially if you book a higher category stateroom. It can be worthwhile to take the time to check around because different TAs offer better deals on different cruises, so the TA we used last time may not be the best one for us to use the next time. Look at today's prices for your sailing date, and then if your sail date goes on sale, you can compare the prices and savings.
