do royal caribbean ships that leave from australian ports charge in A$ or US$ on board. do they charge a hotel service daily charge or are they like PO and Princess who build it into the price when leaving australian ports.

if princess can bring their US ships to australian waters and change over currency to AUD and include gratuities into the fare RCI should be able to do the same but they wont because its too much trouble for them

However Princess tends to be more expensive than RCI. RCI often has very cheap last minute deals. At least you think it's a great deal until you realise it doesn't include the gratuities and then you get onboard and find out the drinks prices. :eek:

I don't think the drink prices themselves are that expensive compared to many other lines or pubs and bars back home. What does make them dearer is when you add in the exchange rate to AUD as some lines don't need to the conversion.

It's only the Princess/ Carnival ships that are based in Oz on a permanent basis that are in Australian dolars, the rest are still in US Dollars are they not.?

Any Princess cruise starting and ending in Aus is aus$ and from later this year any relocation cruise to or from Australia.

 

So Diamond last year, here just for the season Aus$, later this year heading back to Australia even though starting in Asia it will be Aus $

RCI does have some very good late deals. Last year we did a part circumnavigation of Aus for less than half Princess or HAL in an oceanview room.

Even with grats added we saved heaps. Drinks do not bother us particularly - DH

has his Diet Coke and we have our Diamond vouchers. Most ships also have drink package deals or offers. There is always a good price each day for the cocktail of the day on RCI.

We look for a good deal rather than a particular brand or ship as they all have their pluses and minuses - just factor any costs into your final price. That is unless we want to cruise at a time and place where there is little choice then we just pay and enjoy.

They are more expensive, Mic. RCI and Celebrity charge US $14 or more for cocktails. On Princess USD cruises the cocktails are US $10.

In my experience they have not been but perhaps it depends on the type of cocktails. There are plenty that are included in X's Classic drinks package which is up to $12 for cocktails.

18% grats on top of drinks on Celebrity. Probably the same as RCL. That is steep. Especially if in US dollars.

 

RCL keep slashing their cabin prices. Its all these factors.
