Schoifmom Posted July 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2016 It really varies by cruiseline. Can you tell us which one you are going to be on?

navybankerteacher Posted July 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2016 OP spoke of a "long cruise" - a term which should be defined. Ordinarily, long cruises might be seen as involving more than two weeks - and probably would have more of a dress code which would include long pants in the MDR. Capt_BJ Posted July 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 10, 2016 responders note the OP appears to not be from US ... so possibly not sailing US/Carib . . .

Not exactly true. DCL, while having formal and semi-formal nights on their longer cruises, allows whatever dress you want to wear to dinner. Except no swimwear or tank tops. Even on formal/semi-formal nights.
loubetti Posted July 10, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2016 Indeed, "Kent" is in England. That aside, no one can accurately answer this question without knowing the cruise line being taken.

spookwife Posted July 11, 2016 #14 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Generally speaking clean, no holes rips or tears in denim is permitted. That being said, no one wears it in the Caribbean. Way too hot for jeans.
iancal Posted July 11, 2016 #15 Share Posted July 11, 2016 We have not taken dress clothes on a cruise for quite some time, ie ties, suits, etc. Usually our cruises are part of a longer land vacation. We only travel with carry on so we only bring what will be worn often. Our experience across numerous cruise lines (but not Cunard) is that shorts are just fine in the buffet and in the dining room at breakfast and lunch. At dinner, casual is fine, but long pants. Jeans are fine as noted above. I will wear a pair of casual slacks and a collared shirt at night IF we decide to eat in the dining room. A number of cruise lines have changed their dress requirements to smart casual on formal nights so we may just try that again. Not a big deal as we do not really find formal night dinners in the MDR to be all that they are cracked up to be.
Cruisin'Christine Posted July 11, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 11, 2016 I think that you will find that what people wear in the dining room varies significantly. I think that you can wear Jeans, as long as they are not of the ripped variety. I have seen people wear longer shorts before, but that is typically ok for lunch in the dining room, but not at night.
