US Passport Renewal Surprise!

On July 18, we mailed (regular 1st class) our passports, applications & checks to the State Dept. for renewals. Our check cleared about days later. When we picked up our mail yesterday, July 30, our new passports were here! 12 day turnaround! Wow! We did not ask for priority processing, either. Well done, State Department! :)

That is a great turn around time.

A couple of years ago we both sent our passports in on the same day for renewal. I got mine back in about 2 weeks. DH's came back in about 6 weeks.

Same quick turnaround renewal for me too, sent certified mail...non- express....on July 1st...renewal passport received on July 14th and old passport returned July 18th.

btw ... did you know that the passport agency does NOT run on tax dollars?

 

It is self sufficient on the fee you pay ......

 

and presently they use 'priority mail' for your return so it is traceable ....

 

well done State Department as someone else said ...... hmmmm .... positive changes in the State Department in the recent past ...... Hmmmmmm

We're going to be renewing ours very shortly but just curious, do you get the previous passports back? We have ours stamped with a couple of trips where we had fond memories.

You receive the old passport back shortly after you receive the new ones. There will be a hole punched in the old passport thru the corner
