The Haven on the Getaway

We along with another couple are booked on the Getaway in the near future, so here is my question. I am thinking about trying to get an upsell to the Haven and surprise my wife(she doesn't read these boards). Is it a worth spending the extra since I am pretty sure our friends won't upgrade. Although our cabins are not close to each other I am sure we will be spending a lot of time together. Thanks in advance.

I went through something similar. Was going to surprise my wife with the haven but we were sailing with another couple (non haven) so I decided against it. If you want to eat together, you won't be using the haven restaurant. If you want to just lay around, and hang out with the other couple, it would have to be at the main pool, not the haven area.. if you plan on spending a substantial amount of time with the others, I wouldn't spend the money on the haven.. just my option :D

We are booked for the second time in a Haven cabin on the 11 September sailing. Our cabin is located in the actual Haven area itself (as opposed to the various Haven accommodations which are located elsewhere).

I agree that if you are going to be spending "a lot of time together" having Haven accommodations is going to be awkward if those other folks aren't also Haven booked as well.

Its all or nothing...

Loved the Haven upsell but if my friends didnt do it with me, I'd stay in a regular balcony. Needless to say, we both upgrade and our families had a GREAT time...we escape the chaos of the regular world, hung out by the haven lounge, drank by the bar while our kids played in the pool...

Try harder to sell it to your friends...

It really depends on how much time you plan on spending with your friends. We had friends in a non haven cabin on our last cruise and during the day we did our own things. In the evening we met up for dinner a few times and all went to the shows and casino together and some evenings we ate in the haven and met them later. It worked out great. As another poster suggested maybe the other couple can just move to the Haven too. It is fabulous!!

Agree with this poster. If you don't plan on spending every minute with them, it is totally worth it. We had an aft balcony so our friends were able to spend time with us there and we also had them as our guests at Haven restaurant once -- there is an up charge, but it was nice to show them our little slice of heaven.

  • 8 months later...

Go with the Haven and invite them to dinner. After getting an upsell in 2016 on the Breakaway, I decided I would not sail a mega ship without the ability to retreat to the Haven ever again. Maybe I'm getting old, but I thought it was worth every $$. Disliked our butler and liked our concierge but the peace and quiet, attention of other staff, even and staff calling you by name...priceless. We also met some nice people in the Haven too. Not all snooty like you'd think. Only downside if you are traveling with teens, they cant use the facilities with their newfound steerage friends. Life is so unfair:eek:

Although Haven guests could previously invite non-Haven guests to the Haven restaurant (up to 2 times per week at a charge of $25pp), the word is that it is no longer allowed (depending on the concierge, it may still be allowed in certain situations).

Another option would be to invite the non-Haven friends to your Haven stateroom and arrange for the butler to serve dinner in the suite (no problem doing that). Table/seating arrangements will depend on the stateroom. Some Haven suites don't have a large seating/dinning area.

If you invite them to the Haven suite, they can only enjoy the stateroom (not the bar, lounge, pool, etc.). It's best to let the concierge know beforehand if the friends will be visiting. The Haven guest will probably have to escort the friends directly to the stateroom.

You can't bring someone that is not staying in the Haven to dinner. This is enforced on all ships and they make no exceptions. This was made clear to us by the concierage on the Getaway.

You actually can by paying for them. On the Getaway, we did this and were charged $35 pp to have them have dinner with us. We did this for our friends for their anniversary.

They have changed the rules and now no longer allow guests. We were just in the Haven on the Getaway and were told this and I Confirmed this with someone I know that works there.
