ctemkg Posted September 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2016 Hi. I was looking at this Mariner sailing a couple of weeks ago and as of today, it no longer appears on the Regent site. Any idea what the ship is doing and where it is going on 3/17/18? Thanks.
south park Posted September 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Just received a call from the travel agent yesterday, Regent cancelled the sailing. We were booked on this cruise. We have been offerrred the April sailing that ends in San Francisco. Have not decided if we will move to April.
ctemkg Posted September 29, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Regent cancelled the sailing. We were booked on this cruise. We have been offerrred the April sailing that ends in San Francisco. Have not decided if we will move to April. That sailing was the 2nd on our B2B after the Amazon. This would leave us in Miami for a month before the ship sails again. I will have to take a look at the San Francisco sailing to check out the itinerary. Thanks. UUNetBill Posted September 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Wow. That's taking 16 days out of the revenue stream? Must be a good reason. But since Mariner is scheduled for her refurb in what, spring of '17? Wouldn't be any reason to do a fix-up again in spring of '18. Besides, she'll be in Miami, not near any of the usual Regent shipyards. My money would be on a charter or some Regent big-wig event - seems pretty coincidental since Mariner will be in Miami, and Regent is based in Miami... Would be interesting to know what precipitated that gap in service.
UUNetBill Posted September 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Never trust a geek with Excel. A quick check on a typical 16-night Mariner cruise shows approximately $2.76 million in fare revenue based on a full ship at published fares. Figure a bit less than that with GTY fares and upsells, but still a good chunk of money to leave on the table. Huh.
Travelcat2 Posted September 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Agree that it could be a charter. On the other hand, Amazon cruises are not selling well (we're looking at one for next year). Regent could end up finding another itinerary for the Mariner during that time. As you indicated on another thread, with everything going on in the world, itineraries are changing more than normal and Zika may be keeping people away from Brazil. mrlevin Posted September 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2016 We had this topic on another thread a couple of weeks ago; they are removing the back to back Panama Canals. Look at the next cruise it is showing as starting in Costa Maya and then to Miami then Caribbean cruise. Unless there is a charter that ends in Costa Maya; this doesn't make sense at all. Regent is replacing the PC cruises with Caribbean cruises. The PC to SFO is still there as that is the repositioning for the AK season.
PaulaJK Posted September 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Does anyone know why R is replacing PC cruises w Caribbean?
Rare ronrick1943 Posted September 30, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Well if you don't see another cruise being offered, it has to be a charter. They wouldn't keep it out of the market for a couple of weeks.
mrlevin Posted October 1, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) Does anyone know why R is replacing PC cruises w Caribbean? Because they announced EIGHTEEN Panama Canal cruises when they published late 2017 through early 2018 schedule; THEN, when they cancelled Northwest Passage they ended up with one more. And it doesn't look they are selling too well. Why would a luxury cruise line repeat the same itinerary so many times. Marc edited to add: The Costa Maya to Miami cruise has been removed; they realized their mistake at filling part of the time but not all. Travelcat2 Posted October 1, 2016 #11 Share Posted October 1, 2016 I suspect that we haven't seen the end of changes. The Med. hasn't sold well for a while. Brazil has Zika issues (more than most other countries). You can only go to Asia certain times of the year. Lots of challenges.
flossie009 Posted October 1, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) So it now appears that there is a one month blank in the spring 2018 schedule for Mariner - from March 17 to Apr 18 It will be interesting to see what they fill the gap with.............and when It obviously makes no sense to pay Panama Canal fees if a double transit is not going to be popular Edited October 1, 2016 by flossie009

Could be that the fares are so much higher than what people would pay without the huge PC fees that bookings are not being made and thus it will be more profitable to sail only in the Caribbean with fuller ships? Travelcat2 Posted October 1, 2016 #14 Share Posted October 1, 2016 Regent dropped the price of the Mariner Amazon cruise for November 2016 approximately $6Ksince the fares first came out. The November 2017 sailing started out at the lower fare. IMO, this speaks volumes.
iamheisenberg Posted October 4, 2016 #15 Share Posted October 4, 2016 FYI, there are now three round-trip Miami itineraries on the Regent web site, March 17 thru April 18, 2018. (10 days + 10 days + 12 days Miami round-trip = 16 days + 16 days Panama Canal.) They are pretty ordinary itineraries. (Yucky even.) They are low priced for Regent, but I would hold out for the Zika pricing.
Travelcat2 Posted October 4, 2016 #16 Share Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) Just viewed all of Mariner's March and April 2018 cruises. They aren't exciting itineraries but aren't bad. As mentioned by another poster, Regent originally scheduled quite a few Panama Canal cruises and probably realized that Zika is an issue. While they could easily fill the ships with sales and "offers", these new itineraries will likely be more appealing. Note: Apparently the search function of the website is not updated yet or it doesn't recognize round-trip Miami cruises that transit the Panama Canal. I did a search for South America cruises and the system came up with only one -- next March. What I expected to see was something like the "Circle South America" cruises. The Regent site shows the 3/17/18 as 10 day Miami to Miami, yet the map on the page shows Miami to Los Angeles. https://www.rssc.com/cruises/MAR180317/summary/default.aspx
