Hurricane Matthew headed for Half Moon Cay

Hi-

Although I am far more concerned with the human impact Matthew is having on the people of Haiti right now by tomorrow it will be laying waste to Half Moon Cay or Little San Salvador and the rest of the Bahamas. They can expect a 10-15 ft storm surge with 25 ft waves on top of that plus 130+mph winds. Little Half Moon Cay doesn't stand a chance, since the Carnival Corp. owns the island I'm assuming they will rebuild, but I would expect it to be out of service for quite some time.

It looks like it will be a Cat. 4 passing very close or even a direct hit on HMC. HMC will be wiped out completely and out of commission for most likely the 2016/17 Caribbean season.

Let's not forget that a Hurricane is an annoyance for cruisers but it is absolutely life challenging for people who live there.

Not exactly...open again in two weeks.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Matthew will hit HMC sometime on Tuesday. Hopefully the damage won't be too severe. We are scheduled to stop there on Oct 22, hoping for the best.

So we had our day at HMC on Saturday, very pleasant even though there were two ships in. There was no visible evidence of Matthew and everything was intact and appeared normal.

That should read "Thanks, Sopwith. We're there in a few weeks and it's good to hear that all is ok."

Unfortunately, Replacing our roof after Hurricane Matthew is going to cost us at least 2 visits to HMC :(

Named storm insurance deductibles are so high here that they don't cover the cost of a roof. Named storm deductibles are 9x higher than a normal claim like hail damage.:(
