Wonder if you can confirm something. We're on a Dec cruise on the Royal, Riviera deck, aft facing balcony. Just read that they're covered in soot every morning. Would like to know while we can still change cabins....

You may be one of the "guinea pigs" I referred to as "a consensus of future reports" here:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2412219

The same tube extensions on Regal Princess (added because of the complaints of soot from Royal Princess) seemed to have helped quite a bit as compared to the initial roll-out of Royal Princess and her aft facing cabins.

This drink package is OK ( HICCUP). Looks as if we're in for a rough patch as we're nearing the remnants of Nicole. Bartender, set 'em up!

Someone asked about the head chef. Don't know the name, only the product and it has been consistently good. The hand-thrown pizzas at Alfredo's are a simple pleasure. Casino antics have been good. Harry's poker has been profitable as of late and Joyce is doing better at slots but still playing catch up.

Still haven't hit the main dining room for breakfast. It's been a profusion of lattes and assorted goodies at the International Cafe for LATE breakfast. Can't seem to get out of the rack before 9 am. Oh well, life is tough but we're bearing up. So long for now.

Ubetcha. Of course, we want to see how they were able to finish off the crew stairs. It's not an obsession (note the correct spelling) with stairs in general, but rather these stairs.

I don't need you to correct my spelling. Try looking at your own English first. "Ubetcha". Never seen that in a dictionary.

Everything was great till 2 days ago. TV & AC doesn't work in our room.It is very hot on some areas of the ship. eg. Horizon Bistro this morning. We have had 2 different repair men in our cabin working on the balcony door which we can't open. Since yesterday it has been sweltering in the room. I hope they fix it today.

Had lobster last night. Tasty but very tiny. Haven't had escargots yet.

The stairs are open and carpeted and look like the other stairs. I don't get the obsession with the stairs either, never did.:)

We had the same problem with the AC a few years ago. :( It was due to the balcony door that wasn't sealing properly. They would fix it & a day later it would go out of adjustment again. I just cut up a bunch of towels to jam in the big crack so we could sleep at night without the warm breeze blowing past the seal.

What cabin are you in?

Not sure of the time for MDR breakfast. I said I can't get out of the rack before 9. Takes me THAT much longer to get presentable. DW insists I drag the razor over my puss prior to leaving the room. That and other ablutions means the door isn't cracked much before ten. Once on a cruise ship we time shift and seldom hit the rack before midnight. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Bouncy as h*ll today with relative winds on deck at about 35 mph. Sunny though so the open decks are nice but challenging. Zumba/Line Dancing LOUD. LOUD, LOUD in the piazza. Darn near keeps me awake:rolleyes:. Wish they would move it to another venue.

Pizza from the Lido deck for lunch. There is no doubt, Princess makes the very best pizza at sea. Back to my book; so long for now.

We are on too. A few bumps with issues in the cabin right after drydock. Biggest issue was puck size transponder in ceiling that they just put in. Every min it flashes three times. As we are in an inside at night the room lights up. There is also one in the bathroom. They are working on it. Eventually we sugeested covering it up with duck tape until it stops. So red green and Canadian. Still flashing today...hubby thinks it is great. In middle if the night he claims light show. I insist he preform!

Midship stairway is done. Extra staircase from lido to sun in aft.

Side aisles in princess theater now in place. Amazing lcd screens at aft elevators. HUGE.

Also new maps lcd screens too.

Amazing entertainment.

Executive chef is David MacDonald.

We are also on the Royal Princess transatlantic and things are not good. We have no working television, telephone and only recently have been able to flush our toilet. We have made several trips to passenger services (we can't call them) and all we get is the run around. It is not our fault, independent contractors, working 24 hours, except for sleeping. We cannot call room service, our room steward, 911 in case of emergency and no one seems to care. We are from Florida and our home took a direct hit from Hurricane Matthew but we can't even see the news to find out what is happening. This is not our first cruise on Princess, it is our 24th, and we have never experienced anything like this. No one can give us answers, no one seems to care and no one has any solutions to offer. We always felt that Princess was our number one choice when it came to cruising but now we are wondering if it is time for a change. We will see what happens going forward but so far we are very disappointed with the response we have received.

Gosh, is very different from our experience on the Grand Princess last year, our cabin got floaded due to a kid leaving the tub overflow in a room next to us... Princess called us and gave us a free dinner at the crown grill... which we never even asked for ... we had a fan blowing in our cabin for 3 days toward the end of the cruise.

We have 23 cruises with Princess as well... I would contact the Captain Circle Host if you are not getting any satisfaction or response, I assume you have talked to the Officer encharge of Customer Service, not would do that as well.

You guys have a great attitude after all of those mishaps! We are doing the Royal TA next October from Barcelona. Been on 2 other Princess ships, but not this one, so we're anxious to hear all of your posts. And BTW, how much is that "deluxe drink package" you have? I'm very interested!

Not much new to report. Oh yes, the TV bug bit us; it's been out since last night. The Platinum/Elite party has been moved to Club 6. It's a bit crowded but doable.

I slandered the Zumba folks earlier. Mea maxima culpa. The noisemakers in the piazza are line dancers. So loud you can hear them all over the ship. Just a bad choice of venues IMHO.

Dining continues to be a pleasure; probably the best in our past few cruises. We haven't visited the Horizon Court yet and probably won't. We're using the International cafe as our snack shop. Lots of good offerings and open 24 hours.

Seas are down a bit it was a beautiful day; temps in the mid to upper 70's and the wind was light from the Northeast.

I have turned my luck around at the poker table while Joyce is still struggling to win anything from those too-tight slots. Oh well, it's the only game in town!

Thanks for the continuing updates - I've really enjoyed following along!

One question: is Fondue's still being offered onboard? It was a fun option for a different dining option.

Thanks.

I have not seen it oferred they are still doing crab shack. Price is up since the spring. Now it is 29

Fondue's no longer shows as an option on the Dining Guide. Maybe it's gone.

Yeah, I had seen it gone from the dining info, just double checking whether it may still be offered onboard. We all know the website can be a less than accurate source of correct info.

Hello again from the Royal Princess. Well, it's almost over:(. Tomorrow is the last sea day then Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. Lucky for us we're staying on board for another 5 days so when the luggage comes out tomorrow evening we won't suffer from the usual depression:D.

Not much new on board; a few pseudo-sales, ugly weather all day today; rain, rain, and more rain with rough seas and NO SUN. But hey, it never rains in Crooners! Joyce picked up a nasty cold (no noro symptoms though) and stayed in the cabin most of the day. I've been kept busy making G&T runs and picking up a few tidbits here and there; just to keep her strength up. Clocks go back tonight and tomorrow night to get us back to Eastern time so the extra sleep is welcome.

I had a little recoup at the poker table last night but Joyce wasn't up to tackling the slots so she'll have to make her comeback tomorrow.

We had such a great crew in the MDR that we asked for the same table for the next cruise and so we're all set there. Had my favorite, goat cheese souffle, last night and Joyce tried the always available grilled salmon steak. She said it was the best she had ever had on a cruise ship. Still can't reconcile the fact that the medallions of beef are gone from the always available menu with no other beef (other than a burger) substituted. Other than that major disappointment, the food has been great.

Well, time to take Joyce some more liquid medicine. I'll be posting one last time tomorrow so until then, ta ta.

Harry,

thank you so very much for doing the live thread! We will be on the Royal on 11/6 sailing - can you tell me who your awesome wait staff is ? Also Do you know if they would be staying on the Royal?

I hope that the G&T's are helping Joyce.. with the cold. Looks like it is suppose to be in upper 70's low 80's in Fort Lauderdale and sunny- when you arrive!

thank you again for this thread

Kathy
