Teen Questions About OBC and Cruise Cash

We have three cabins booked. My daughter(19) and her friend(19) each have a $100 OBC and will probably receive some cruise cash for the holidays. My daughter mentioned the other day that they are unsure they will even use the $100 OBC. Maybe the Thrill Theater and a few shakes. Do we need to load additional cash on their sign and sail? What if they do get close to using the $100 up? Does it jump to our sign and sail or do they just notify them?

Any info. would be helpful.

Can't answer all of your questions but can say:

If gratuities were not pre-paid the OBC/gift cards will cover some of that.

If you use your credit card to back the accounts for the teenagers' cabin, any amount they spend over that designated will be charged to your credit card.

If you didn't back their account, any charges that exceed the OBC and value of gift cards will be denied. Someone will have to provide more cash, or a credit card, at Guest Services.

If they don't exceed the original amount the excess will be refunded at the end of the cruise. In the alternative you can use their card(s) for your own purchases (non-alcoholic and non-casino).

I know the Breeze and the Magic track all charges on the tv in the cabin. It's easy to check nightly for current charges and positive or negative balances.

Hope someone else will chime in to cover other scenarios.

Have a great time!

If they did not pre pay gratuities the OBC will be used automatically to pay them.

You can track spending each day either from the tv in the cabin or the kiosk on board.

There are many ways to spend money so hard to know ahead of time if it will be used or not if you've pre paid the tips.

IF you have given them charging privileges on your credit card then if they use the OBC up it the rest will be on your card.

IF you did NOT give them charging privileges then they will not be allowed to spend more than they have in OBC and they may /may not need more on their account.

OP mentioned Cruise Cash, not gift cards. Please be aware that Cruise Cash is NOT refundable, it's use it or lose it. Carnival will, I believe, use Cruise Cash before OBC, so if they have any OBC left at the end of the cruise (as long as it is refundable), they can get it at the kiosk in cash.

My daughters are very effective at spending onboard at Pixels (buying photos of themselves!), the Spa, even the onboard shops (although they have become far less interesting since the recent change of vendor/supplier).

There will be daily Spa specials in their mailbox....all kinds of combinations they never dreamed they would need or want will suddenly seem so very enticing.

Buy non refundable they simply mean if any money is left in the account they won't send you a check like they do with other OBC, you forfeit it. That doesn't mean they have to use all of it or lose the money. All you have to do is go to the casino or any of the kiosks on board and draw the money out the last night on board.

they are both able to gamble in the casino. IF the money is not used tell them to use the slot machine and cash out that money.

BUt like posted- their gratuties will be charged to each of their cards unless they are prepaid.

And yes. on a cruise they are considered minors until they are 21 and you are responsible for anything over their cards.

Thank you for all of the replies.

We have pp gratuities. Both girls will add some cash to the sign and sail if need be but I think they are worried because it is so close after the holidays.

I guess I didn't think about them being able to gamble, so that could be an option to cash out. Neither have really gambled before so that might be something they will want to spend $ on. Their OBC is non refundable. Neither is interested in the spa. DD's friend worked all summer to pay her share of their cabin so I don't see them using the spa due to the high cost, but you never know with 19 yr olds. We paid our DD's portion of the cabin and all of their excursions so our only deal was they had to cover their spending ob and souvenirs.

Again thank you for the replies.
