Question: Venice People Mover

We have a cruise planned for May 2017 leaving Venice. Our plan has us staying near the bus/train area. Therefore we will use the People Mover for transportation to the cruise terminal. There appears to be multiple cruise terminals. Would there be marked directions coming off the People Mover relative to the HAL ship? Is it a long walk from the People Mover to the appropriate terminal?

Thanks for the help.

I find it a long walk to any of the terminals from the People Mover. On the map below, the People Mover is just above P5 (Parking lot 5). That little red/white pic is the People Mover symbol. HAL ships usually dock at terminal 117 and we had to walk all the way around to the far end of the terminal to enter. EM

It is a very long walk especially with luggage from the people mover station to the cruise terminal.

tip: take a hotel in the city of Mestre. Its over the bridge on the main land and there are many hotels opposite the train station. The train costs only 2 euro's and it will take you in 5 minutes to Venice. You can visit Venice whenever you want. Lovely in the evening. Then take a taxi from Mestre to the cruise terminal the next morning. Taxi is 40 euro's from the airport to Mestre and also from Mestre to the cruise terminal.

No need to stay in Mestre to take a taxi. You can also take a taxi to the port from Piazzale Roma (where the OP is planning to stay) AND be much closer to Venice's iconic sites.

Everyone is different, but I prefer to stay in a central location. Transportation in Venice does eat up some time; IMO it's better to use that time exploring Venice rather than commuting from Mestre.

Eurodam last Spring arrived in Venice with an overnight at the end of the cruise.

We found it an easy walk to People Mover with no luggage the first day. Well marked- and you can see it from the ship.

However- most important! Does not take US credit cards without chip and PIN. If you don't know what this means then most likely you don't have this.

Next Problem- cash (euros) work but nothing larger than a 10 Euro note. Finally got someone to trade our 20 for 2 tens to save a walk back to the ship. There are no manned ticket stations near the port.

Have fun- beautiful city.

We did his 3 years ago for a Royal Caribbean cruise. We flew into Venice and got a bus ticket from the machine in the hall where your luggage comes off the carousel. Couple of euros and your at the bus station in the city. we stayed overnight in a hotel near the train station. only difficult part is the bridge of steps getting to the station - but there is a porter who will carry your bags over the bridge for a euro anyway. Reverse route the next morning, cross the bus station, people mover then walked to the ship. Total cost from airport to hotel to ship - less than €10 Incidentally, we did not find the walk at all difficult or long, and we are no spring chickens. But maybe HAL docks further away?

On our last trip through Venice, HAL had a bus at the end of the People Mover so you put your luggage underneath, got on and they drove you to the ship. The porters unloaded the luggage for us. Not sure if we just got lucky or if this is the norm. This was in 2015.

Regarding the "long walk" it really depends on the individual. To many HAL cruisers, just walking from one end of the ship to the other is an effort...and for those folks it is a very long walk :). For those of us who routinely exercise and walk/run....it is a relatively easy walk that can take 10-20 min. As to the free port shuttle, maybe yes and maybe no (it is Italy). On our last visit the shuttle bus was running...although sometimes folks would have to wait at least 30 min. On several previous visits it was not running...without any explanation as to why.
