Head Waiter

Well, I'm just saying that you are sooooo wrong. You never saw your steward but the cabin was immaculate so he did his job. The same can be said about the head waiter. You don't HAVE to see him yet he is doing his job by overseeing the wait staff and making sure things run smoothly.

Of course, once again, you will never read this post or any of the others explaining the job of the head waiter. :(

As far as people saying they never see the head waiter, do they really expect him/her to make it to every table? That is unreasonable and they would never be able to do their job. The job is not just to socialize.

Actually, regarding your last paragraph, not that I personally require a visit, but the head waiter can easily make it to every table since there are several head waiters in every dining room. Each head waiter has a finite number of tables for which he/she is responsible. There is one maitre'D who is in charge of the head waiters and the rest of the dining staff. :)

If you go food shopping you see the cashier, sometimes you talk to the supply clerk who's putting things on shelves, or you ask a baker for something. You don't see the manager - it's his job to make sure the things run smoothly.

Same with the head waiter, he is behind the scene.

Didn't say it was impossible just unreasonable considering the other things that require their attention. BTW, did have a head waiter who stopped by our table every night.:)
