-> ANTHEM: drink package discounts and other $$$ topics

Recommended Posts

I am currently on board the gorgeous Anthem of the Seas.

Still sorry that Dynamic Dining is gone. I have only eaten in the MDR once for dinner. It was adequate.

But let me get to the point. I had lunch today with the Bar Manager.

EVERY SHIP in the fleet should now be honoring the D/D+/PC discounts on the Deluxe Drink Package.

That's 20% off for Diamond (so if you can get that pre-cruise in your Cruise Planner, it should be a wash - your choice of when to buy); 30% off for D+ and 40% off for Pinnacle.

A few other nuggets:

Remember the thread last week (?) about the person who wrote a nice letter about the overpriced Nyquil in the shop and was reimbursed?

Here's a shocker: HA! It's still $17.99

In the casino, if you get cash on your SeaPass account, they now hand you cash. No more slot machine vouchers. (I make my SeaPass account a cash account, so they don't charge me the 5% fee. Then I put my credit card on my account at Guest Services before the end of the cruise.)

Yesterday they put all of the gratuity charges for the remaining four days of the cruise on everyone's SeaPass accounts. It looks like your account has jumped significantly, so they actually sent out a message informing you of this action. (a good thing, IMO)

I love the way that they phrased the message, though. "For your convenience" LOL

I will be happy to answer any Anthem questions whether they are financial or other.

:)

Is it absolutely mandatory to use a credit card for your onboard account? Can we simply use cash only ...all the way through til the day we disembark...and even settle on the last day with cash too? we don't have any cc's and our debit card is not an option. Thanks...

You can absolutely use nothing but cash.

Does anyone know if they charge for the circus/ trapeze classes and if you need to make reservations?

There is no charge for it, the bumper cars, the surfing/boarding, rock climbing, 1-min iFly or to go up in the North Star. The last 2, you can only do once.

Some of them require waivers to be agreed.

Specifically to your question, no reservations, you wait in line. It's a specific time in the SeaPlex (every day I think) and it's uneventful. There is a safety harness and you are assisted by staff leveraging you with a rope. You are instructed to swing, hang by your knees and do a backflip onto the matt. It's the same routine for everyone and takes less than a minute.

I will be posting a video soon once it's ready on youtube and you'll see it about a minute in.

Cheers!

Can you please explain how one uses cash on board the ship. I thought everything was charged to the sail and sign card. One can use cash to pay the on-board account at Guest Services, but I didnt think that one could hand over cash to a server or retail person to pay for something.

Has something changed since my last cruise?

Thanks.

You are correct in a roundabout way. Your RC card/key effectively becomes a debit card by going to Guest Services and banking cash into your account.

On Royal Caribbean your account is called your SeaPass account. ;)

Before the cruise and/or at check-in, you tell them whether you will be putting down a credit card or using cash.

If you indicate cash, then you don't have to pay until you have racked up $500 worth of charges. Once you get close to that, Guest Services will contact you to come down and give them money. (or put down your credit card then). If you never reach $500, you can settle on the final night.
