Bobby Jones Posted November 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Just booked Island Princess for January 2007 Hawaiian cruise - more than a year away!! I know anticipation is part of the pleasure of a cruise, but what's the earliest you ever booked? I notice 'Largin' also has a booking for 1/07. Booked a balcony on Aloha deck forward - A309. Any comments?
chrysalis Posted November 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2005 i have booked cruises more than 1 year in advance....all the more time to anticipate.....
imsulin2 Posted November 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Not crazy at all! I'm waiting for 2007 prices on the fall b2b sailings of the TP! Yeah - crazy like a fox!!
mringenoldus Posted November 15, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We're booked on a March 2007 Auckland to Sydney cruise on the Sapphire. I was able to get an Aft BB. There aren't any others available so we must not be the only ones booking in advance!
Steven_&_Daniel Posted November 15, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2005 You'd be surprized how many people book so far in advance. We booked an April 2007 cruise on the Crown Princess back in August. Currently in the shipyard, it's maiden voyage is six months away! The ship should have all the bugs worked out but still be fairly new when we sail. If you make monthly payments from now until the balance is due, it's much easier on the bank account too! NEW YORK LADY2 Posted November 15, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We're already booked for the Crown for March, 2007 and are waiting for the Summer/Fall Europe schedule to come out so we can book the European Explorer if offered in Sept. 07. I like to make sure I get the cabin I want and start to compile all my research which is half the fun of traveling (and naturally participating in an early roll call and getting to know my fellow cruisers). mringenoldus Posted November 15, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Steven_&_Daniel You're right about advanced bookings giving you the chance to save. The Australia/New Zealand trip will also have higher airfare. I have started putting money away every 2 weeks so the bulk of the expense will be covered before final payment date. I'm keeping it in a seperate account so I'm still earning the interest rather than giving it to Princess too early.
cherylandtk Posted November 15, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Umm, no, not crazy, just well planned. I booked for March of 2007 over 3 months ago just to get the balcony I wanted.

schatje Posted November 15, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I don't think your crazy for booking ahead. We booked 17 months ahead for our B2B cruises next year in Dec. We are leaving on this years cruise in 17 days so I will immediately have something to work on after Christmas. Enjoy the journey!!
stoneharborlady Posted November 15, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I intend to book for July 2007 as soon as they open the bookings for summer of that year. Our family was going to do RCI Mariner, but they have decided on Princess instead!! YESSSS!!!

deadzone1003 Posted November 15, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Booked a balcony on the Sapphire Princess for Sydney-LA for April 2007 on July 2005. Glad I did as the only cabins available now are inside and obstructed-view cabins. I think all the balconies were gone by the end of summer.

prophotogirl Posted November 15, 2005 #21 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I booked my first Alaska cruise July 2003 and sailed Sept. '04. Booked my 2nd Alaska cruise June '05 sailing July '06. It's never too early to book a cruise! I thinking about Aug '07 in the Med. Once bookings open up I might just book it.
Rare Coral Posted November 15, 2005 #22 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I just can't book that far in advance. If I ask for time off in June of 2007, my boss would laugh. I am just starting to think of May 2006 and what I should be doing.
Rare Tak8 Posted November 15, 2005 #23 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Almost every cruise I have taken, I have booked a year plus in advance. I'm waiting for the summer '07 Crown schedule to come out. I'm hoping she will stay in San Juan and do the Southern Caribbean. I believe you get better pricing and cabin selection for booking early. Enjoy the planning process.
Druke I Posted November 15, 2005 #24 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I have booked as far out as 20 months. Currently booked for a cruise 13 months out. Seems perfectly normal to me.
GottoCruise Posted November 15, 2005 #25 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Booking early locks in your rate (You can always monitor and adjust if/when rates go down, but popular itineraries and categories go up - and best cabins are taken  If your plans change - just cancel - deposit returned, no problem......... The only drawback to booking very early is the Promotional mailings Princess marketing has been sending out lately for new bookings only....you lose out on some extra SBC...... I'm not happy with this situation..........although an early booking with a group rate through a good TA usually evens things out............JMHO Renee
