Anthem Smoke in Atrium by sensitive people

Recommended Posts

I have searched the existing threads and haven't been able to find exactly what I am looking for.

My Daughter is very sensitive to smoke and it triggers her asthma.

Are we safe booking a guarantee interior?

What dining room has the smoky entry and is there a way to make our reservation to avoid that dining room?

Does the smoke go up the spiral stairs to the decks above?

If we avoid the starboard side, anything else we need to worry about outside?

Thanks all!

Last time I was on Anthem was August. There is no smoking on the Promenade (not called Atrium on the Anthem). Smoking areas are: casino - Deck 3. (Partial smoking area); The Grande and Chic are on same deck but far away from the Casino. Deck 5 - outside - starboard side - doors across from Vintages. Deck 14 - pool deck - port side across from movie screen. You can get an idea looking at the Anthem deck plans on the Royal site.

Well, it's not called the Promenade, either. It's called the Royal Esplanade in the forward section on Decks 4 & 5. Then there is the Via on Deck 5 aft.

Smoke does not travel away from the Casino, in my experience. It may drift a smidgeon into the Music Hall, but it doesn't go anywhere near any cabins. (particularly interiors). I had a balcony cabin directly over the "bus stop", or semi-outdoors smoking area on Deck 5, and couldn't smell any smoke unless I leaned all the way out. Nor does it come up the spiral stairs. The area closest to that entrance of the casino is non-smoking.

I think maybe you are confusing Anthem with NCL Breakaway? Breakaway has all the problems you describe due to the central location of the casino that allows smoke to permeate several areas of the ship. I've not sailed Anthem yet, but I've not heard about any of these problems on that ship.

Previous posts sum it up well. But, the pool area aft of the indoor pool and solarium port side is a smoking area and the smoke carries almost to the windjammer entrance. So avoid that area and smoke should not be a problem.

Don't you just wish that all ships, like most public places, including hotels were "NO SMOKING?"

It's such a disgusting habit and people who smoke don't even realize how badly THEY smell.

Carnival tried that several years ago and it was a failure.

As someone with severe asthma and can not be around any kind of smoke or perfume or lots of other things. I never had any issue on Quantum and am looking forward to our Anthem cruise. Avoid the smoking areas and you will be fine. I am sure like me you can smell it when your still pretty far away. Just like if the elevator opens and I can smell someones perfume/cologne I don't get on. That is one of the reasons I like cruising. I know I can get medical attention or just back to my room to neb easily.

I have smelled cigarette smoke on my balcony but I go inside. I feel like by the time you tattle whomever is smoking will be done and back in their room anyway. Fortunately the smoke travels away very fast outside, If the ship is moving.

I would not book a guarantee room if your worried. Because up until you see its not a issue you will be worried it might be.

Keep in mind you never know how many smokers your going to have on your sailing.......might be a lot might be not many. I did see more smokers than normal on Quantum going out on NY its a easier cruise for Europeans and Central Americans to take. Could have been my sail time to it was spring break.

Thank you all so much! We just booked our Anthem Cruise. :D

We were on the Explorer and had a problem with the smoke coming up into the Promenade, so that is part of what made me worry about the Anthem when I was looking at the deck plans.

I had also heard that there was smoke while waiting in line for the dining room on the Oasis. and wanted to make sure that wasn't the case here as well.

Thank you again.

Having been on the Explorer, I know just what you mean about the casino and smoke coming up into the Promenade.

I really don't think that you'll have this problem on the Anthem.

Bon Voyage!

:)
