Rare little britain Posted March 4, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2017 The cost of the deluxe drinks package is $55pd Currently on offer to pre purchase at $44pd My math says it should be $38.50pd to purchase on board with the 30% discount. Can someone please confirm the on board price who has bought it? I know RCI math is sometimes a little different [emoji848]! Thanks. SailingSal Posted March 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2017 So the D+ discount is only available onboard? Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app It is my understanding you must wait to be on board to get the D+ discount. I have read that some ships have even given a 40% discount on board with D+. We have even been offered discounts for the chef table when on board - 40% off. You can't lose to wait;)

mpoole3 Posted March 4, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 4, 2017 I've used the D+ discount on board a few times this year. The cost of the Drink Package on board is $61 per day. So D+ get 30% off that price, which on a 7 day cruise is $298, Then you add the 18% to the $298 and get $351. The discount isn't much of a discount in the end. kjmjrm Posted March 4, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 4, 2017 Well it's exactly a 30% discount. The gratuities are added either way, so you can order online and get 20% off plus gratuities, or order onboard and get 30% off plus gratuities. Net savings with diamond plus discount is 10% more than the current online sale, which on my upcoming Harmony OTS cruise saves my wife and me an additional $99.12 and $297.36 total. Not bad. It's good to be D+ Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app
later Posted March 4, 2017 #12 Share Posted March 4, 2017 (edited) If I add the $44 option to my cart it comes in at $363.44 for 7 day cruise which is $51.92pd.......see I told you RCI math can be strange!! [emoji848][emoji857] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk That would be correct 44 x 7 = 308 + 55.44 (18%) = 363.44 The discount is before the 18% tip is added Unfortunately each ship can have a different price and the price can be different depending on the time of year. So we need at least the name of the ship to give you an idea of the appoximate price onboard. If the 55 figure is correct the 44 is a 20% discount and 38.50 would be the 30% discount. You would have to add 18% to the 38.50 to get the total cost per day. That is if the actual price is 55/day when you get onboard. -Tim- Edited March 4, 2017 by later
katiel53 Posted March 4, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 4, 2017 I'd just like to be sure I am understanding this correctly. I am Diamond Plus, sailing on Allure of the Seas this summer, and can't get the 30% off until I am onboard. If I purchase the drink package with the 20% off shown in the cruise planner, I will be able to get an additional 10% off when I board the ship. Is that right? If so, where do I need to go to get the additional credit? I like to pay everything possible before I board so my spending is only for the casino and minor expenses. Thanks for your help. kjmjrm Posted March 4, 2017 #14 Share Posted March 4, 2017 Not sure they will do an adjustment for the difference, however I am told you can cancel the 20% deal and buy the 30% deal once onboard. I opted to just buy onboard since I prefer to not pay for anything in advance and keep my money in my wallet until I must part with it. Perhaps a recent participant can clarify options to prebuy, then still take advantage of the better onboard discount? (i.e. cancel and rebuy, get an adjustment, etc.) Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app

No. After you board, you can purchase the package at whatever price they are charging, with a 30% discount. That may or may not be a better deal than what you have already paid. If it is, you can cancel your prepaid package and re-purchase at the new price. There is no guarantee of what that price will be until you are on board. Rare little britain Posted March 4, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted March 4, 2017 D+ with discount should be $38.50 plus gratuities. $38.50+ 18% ($6.93)= $45.43pd x 7 = $318.01 for a week's cruise versus $363.44 if I buy now. I'm looking at Jewel for this summer. Bit worried by the comment that the price on board can be as high as $61pd. It was $55 last week on Vision! Bruin Steve Posted March 4, 2017 #17 Share Posted March 4, 2017 But, little britain, I can hardly see it worthwhile to purchase at ANY discount... After all, we have 5 ports on a 7 night cruise...so only ONE at sea day...We will be off the ship a good deal of the daytime hours...Then, we get free drinks from 5:00 to 8:30 anyway... So, we'd be, basically, looking at the package only for, maybe, wine with dinner and late night drinks... For the money the package costs...at whatever discount...we can just order what we want when we want and I doubt our bar bill will ever get near the cost of the package... Okay, maybe I'm a lightweight...but, after a few pre-dinner drinks, I've usually had enough and am done drinking for the night...And Beth has been known to doze off in the Diamond Lounge after one Cosmo! :)
dasi11 Posted March 4, 2017 #18 Share Posted March 4, 2017 I have always wondered how people with D+ manage to drink enough to make the drink package worth it. You can go to the lounge and get drinks. Then you get 3 drinks on your card too. When you go to the stops, you are off the ship and pick up the bill for drinks on land...I have always thought if I wanted more to drink after 8: 30 I would just order and pay. $10 $20 Or even $30 more for drinks each night is still cheaper than the package. I am a light weight and never drank more than 2 or 3 an evening anyway.

I want drinks that are not on the approved list. It works for some people. YMMV

We like sitting in concierge lounge but if we want wine I will get it from a near by bar , we have a couple of glasses of wine with lunch and a couple with dinner and that more or less pays for package cost

I usually drink top shelf hard liquor and martini's. If you start early on a sea days and continue throughout the day you can break even for the entire cost of the package in less than half the cruise. If you don't drink the higher cost drinks and you don't drink very much then, yes, the math becomes a bit more important to ensure you get your money's worth.
