BarefootMom Posted March 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Hi, yes, this is our first cruise - Just wondering if I should buy lanyards ahead of time or if they give you one when you board? OR is there something better to keep the sail and sign cards in? I was thinking I might want some sort of cross body waterproof type tiny bag to carry both phone and card in?? there was a bag on the Carnival site I saw but I am wondering what the best way to go is ... FloridaMommyof3 Posted March 23, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I always bring my own. I know you can get one if you apply for the Carnival MasterCard on board.
cruisergrandma Posted March 23, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2017 They do not give you a lanyard. Hubby keeps his card in his wallet. I have a tiny bag that hangs around my neck and holds my card.

tennboy1981 Posted March 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I don't wear one. Its kinda tacky to me imo. I dont wear my credit cards and debit cards around my neck so why would i with my s&s card? Seems kinda juvenile imo. No offense to people who do it, just not for me Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J320A using Forums mobile app

sk8rmomof3 Posted March 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I'm not sure about Carnival, but when we did Royal Caribbean last year, as soon as we got our cards there were kiosks before getting on the ship that were selling the lanyards. They were good price too. I like using a lanyard because I don't want to have to carry a purse or worry if I have no pockets. Plus, for drinks, they put a sticker on your card and you'd have to flash your card to get a drink. By wearing the lanyard, I didn't even have to show them half the time. They saw it before I could even offer to show my card. This time, we are bringing the kids for the first time so I went to Etsy and Amazon and ordered lanyards for everyone and we will have them with us ready to go! Drazil65 Posted March 23, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I always have a crossbody small purse type thing to put it in and DH puts (and DS) his in his wallet then asks me to hold his wallet in my "little" purse ! If you dont want the free one in the casino or bring one with you, then you could go and buy one in the fun shops.
jdemps Posted March 23, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2017 You should just be sure that wherever you store your S & S card that it is no where near your phone. The magnetic stripes deactivate sometimes when stored near a phone. I have no idea why but it has happened to me many times. I just keep my card in my back pocket or in a small crossbody purse I take on vacations.

BarefootMom Posted March 23, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Has anyone actually bought or seen the small cross body bag with the carnival logo on it that they sell for $8 in the fun shops? I am thinking that might work...

No offense to people who do it, just not for me Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J320A using Forums mobile app S&S totally different than credit and debit card example you give. You only need your credit and debit card only occasionally. However you need you S&S for everything on the ship, drinks, pool towels, access to room, etc. Having it available is a convienience. Btw I keep mine in my pocket but certainly don't think less of those who choose to wear it on lanyard around their neck. Crusin Karen Posted March 23, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Lanyards are usually available free of charge in the casino, but they are plastic kind of "tacky" things. I have never worn one either. In my smoking days I carried my card in my cig case. Now it goes wherever there is space on me! DIL gave me a really pretty one for Christmas, so I will probably use it for our next 2 cruises. BTW, if anyone has a Michael's Craft shop in their area, they have really nice lanyards. $5 in our area; last week they were 50% off! ;)
crusinpsychRN Posted March 23, 2017 #14 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I wear one I got from Behind the Fun tour. My son lost his card 3 times one day until I got him a lanyard. I don't know why people thinks it's tacky. I don't want it falling out of my shorts and some things don't have pockets.

Just for me, it bothers me having something hanging around my neck all the time! And of course, when I wear all my precious diamonds, rubies and emeralds to dinner the lanyard would kind of detract from the effect....;p I think it's a great idea for kids, especially. bury me at sea Posted March 23, 2017 #16 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I keep mine in my pocket. My adult daughters preferred lanyards. My grandchildren keep theirs in pockets. Whatever makes you comfortable.

Whatever makes you comfortable. I agree....and whatever the daily activity too. If you are going on an excursion, esp. to a beach, a lanyard is a great idea so your're sure not to lose or replace your card. Maybe on elegant night in the MDR and you're all dressed up, you might want to keep the card in your pocket or purse...whatever works!
PhotoMike Posted March 23, 2017 #18 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I carry a small leather business card wallet in my front pocket while on cruises, it's not bulky at all and allows me to carry the ship card and a few bucks for tips.
Bosrox Posted March 23, 2017 #19 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Not a big fan of wearing things around my neck but I also don't want to have to dig it out of my cross body bag every time I want a drink. Thinking of making some special wristlets that will hold it.
ckmommy72 Posted March 23, 2017 #20 Share Posted March 23, 2017 This is our first cruise as well...I'm not feeling the lanyard idea for myself, so I have a small crossbody bag that I plan to use when/if I don't have pockets I can put my S&S card in. For DH and the kiddos...I ordered lanyards from Amazon. DH can use his or not, up to him. For the kids it's non-negotiable. Otherwise, they'll lose their cards every single day! UGH!! originalgeek Posted March 23, 2017 #21 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I'm on vacation doing touristy things so I don;t care if it's tacky. I ain't never been afraid of tack. A lanyard is convenient because I worry a lot less about losing it - stuff falls out of my pockets all the time especially since I take my phone in and out a thousand times a day and I prefer not to carry my wallet in my back pocket while on vacation. I should say that's while on-board the ship. I try not to advertise what a tourist I am while in ports but I'm probably not very successful at that. Wife's purse will do for holding ID and S&S card while in port...I like the idea above of a small leather card holder - I think I'll make one for us for our next cruise... I don't like the lanyard they give you at the casino - it's a cheap, thin plastic curly cord (like a phone handset cord if anyone remembers phones that have handsets lol) which probably works great for wrapping around your wrist to easily insert into slot machines over and over but as a neck lanyard it leaves a lot to be desired. You can buy fancy Carnival branded lanyards in the shopping area on-board and some were pretty nice but I thought a little expensive. I love the lanyard I got from the Behind the Fun Tour as it it fits all my lanyard needs - long enough to be useful without taking it off all the time and has Carnival branding (like I said - stupid touristy stuff that I love). However that is pretty expensive since you can only get it by going on the tour which is like 95 bucks a person. You do get a LOT of other great perks out of the tour though so I highly recommend it lol.
auscgguysgirl Posted March 23, 2017 #22 Share Posted March 23, 2017 To the OP ... lanyards (really cheesy plastic free ones) are available in the casino on embarkation day ... but when they are gone, they are gone. You CAN buy them in the gift shop on board for I think like $15 to $20 & charge it to your room. Your S&S card comes already w/ a hole in it for clipping. I personally prefer a lanyard w/ a clip than a plastic pocket as it's a real pain to dig the card out of the pocket ... w/ a clip you just unclip & hand it to whomever. My bra My DH is always mortified by this. I rarely have pockets so I do it all the time. :')

Rare Saint Greg Posted March 23, 2017 #24 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I got two free canival funpoints lanyards on my first cruise. One was for signing up for the card and the other was for attending the future cruises seminar. One I use every cruise. I don't wear it around my neck. I attach it to a belt loop and put it in my pocket. Easy to get to and I don't lose it. The other lanyard is at home. I keep all of my old S&S cards on it. mrsfuzzmo Posted March 23, 2017 #25 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I refuse to wear a plastic pouch around my neck. I tuck my card in my swimsuit top or bra, and in the evenings I'll carry a small wristlet with my card, phone/camera, etc. My husband carries his in his pocket, or if we are in the pools, I'll keep it in my swimsuit top.
