Cinderellie Posted March 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2017 Hello. Our family of 10 will be cruising on the Gem at the end of May going to Cape Canaveral and Nassau. Parents with 8 collage age and + kids in early 20's. 6 have never cruised before. Our only firm activity as a group will be dining together for dinner. Most nights we want to be seated in the Grand Pacific or Magenta Dining Rooms. NO specialty restaurants. How do we arrange this - knowing we have a big table? Should we arrange this with the maitre'd or dining captain? We love having the same servers if possible... love the personalized service, but if not possible, OK. We could do same time except the late day back from excursions. What do you suggest for us? Any guidance is appreciated. We usually only go as a couple... first time with the entire brood. Thanks! cb at sea Posted March 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2017 I would suggest TRADITIONAL seating...that way, you will have a table to fit your party WAITING on you every night. No guesswork for your large party on "when is dinner tonight?"....it's the same nightly. You will have the same servers, and even on port days, you WILL be back in time for dinner. Pick traditional seating.

Have you looked online to see whether reservations are available for your group size in the main dining rooms? I dont know whether 10 is an option for booking online. If not then I'd go to the restaurant reservation desk soon after boarding to see what they can do for you. As for getting the same wait staff, some people have reported being able to do this to an extent by talking to the restaurant staff. I doubt you'd get the same staff every night though. Rare Turtles06 Posted March 27, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 27, 2017 There is no such thing as "traditional" seating on NCL. With that large a group, if you want to dine together, I think you'll really want to make reservations. I don't know whether you'll be able to do that on line pre-cruise. If not, as suggested above, go to the large MDR when you embark (which is a great idea for lunch that day, anyway; no reason to fight the crowds in the buffet) and speak to the Maitre d'. Not sure you'll be able to get the same servers nightly, but you can certainly ask. Have a great trip!

NCLfamily Posted March 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 27, 2017 I've done 2 NCL cruises as a 10 and never booked. Never waited longer than 20 minutes at a MDR. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
