compdo Posted February 25, 2018 #676 Share Posted February 25, 2018 I have read nearly every thread relating to hotels but I need some help still. I have researched on Trip Advisor the hotels I thought suited us based on the recommendations in this thread. My problem is when I go to book the hotel directly there is a big discrepancy in pricing. I have always booked directly through the hotels website and not through the various booking links on TA. However, with this big of a difference I am considering it. So, do any of you go through, Trip Advisor, Hotels.com, Orbitz, etc? Look at Hotwire. I got same hotels for much less Sent from my iPad using Forums
Burgmeister Posted February 25, 2018 #677 Share Posted February 25, 2018 Apologies if this has already been answered but this is now a very long thread and I may have missed it. If we buy a bus ticket from Oceankaj can we pay with a credit card or must we use cash? I'm keen to avoid having to change too much cash before we go as, on this cruise, we will be using Euros, Danish Krone, Swedish Krone and Norwegian Krone. Thanks

lamb616 Posted February 25, 2018 #679 Share Posted February 25, 2018 Great thread! I think I will be spending a lot of time on this thread in the upcoming year. We are booked on NCL out of Copenhagen in July, 2019 and I am trying to figure how many days pre-cruise we should plan to be in Copenhagen. It is our FIRST visit to Europe ever and will be myself and my children, ages 12 & 16. I just have some preliminary questions so I can figure out how many days we need. Is it reasonable to think we can do both Copenhagen Zoo & Tivoli Gardens in one day? We will likely ride a few rides, but wouldn't be doing like a full amusement park day. We want to do a Frederiksbork/Kronborg castle tour - is this pretty much a full day? I feel like I'd prefer to book this through a tour co. vs. trying to navigate buses myself. I assume there are threads here somewhere with tour co. recommendations? If not, maybe I can get some recommendations. :) 1 day to wander/see the sights right in Copenhagen. Would like to do a day trip further away, somewhere we could ride bikes and/or hike, nothing too exciting, more of a relaxing "nature day", maybe a dip in the water if there are beaches. I was looking at Mon Island or Bornholm - do both of those fit the bill? Or any other recommendations? And of those, which is easiest and quickest to get to and what is the simplest way to travel to these places? Tour companies? Rent a car? Public transport? I think I saw one of them involves a ferry..... Since we will have limited time in Denmark, I don't want to waste a lot of time waiting on buses, trains, boats, etc. Thanks and I'm sure I will have many more questions in the upcoming months. frederik123456 Posted February 26, 2018 #682 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Hello Everyone,Thank you'all for all the info in this thread. I salute you Danish Viking for the time to answer all questions of fellow cruisers. I have one question if any of you guys can help. We will be cruising on RC Serenade of the Sea to Norway in this coming August starting from Copenhagen. I wonder if I can use google map to go around. We have a T-Mobile unlimited North America data plan. From past experience this data plan works well in most cities in UK and Southern Europe. Will it work in the North as well? Thanks, Jollyflute I'd suggest you ask your provider about coverage. You will probably be connected but perhaps you will pay hefty charges for data if your plan doesn't include use in foreign countries. In any case, google maps allows you to download maps for offline use. It works very well.

Yes its absolutely doable to do both the Zoo and Tivoli in the same day. The zoo is open from 9 to 20 and Tivoli is open from 11 to 23 (24 on fridays and Saturdays) So I would start at the Zoo and then go Tivoli later in the day. Bus 6A towards Emdrup Torv will get you to Tivoli in 13 minutes, just get off at the central station. The bus goes every 6-7 minutes. Its possible to do both Frederiksborg and Kronborg by train and I would gladly make a schedule if you want or else contact Stromma that has a 6,5 hour bus tour for 725 kroner. https://www.stromma.dk/en/copenhagen/tours-excursions/day-trips/castle-tour/ Bornholm can not be done on a daytrip and the cliffs of Møn is 3,5 hour away with 1 train and 3 different busses and almost 2 hours by car so its also a long trip. If I may suggest something else I would take the train to Tisvildeleje or Gilleleje instead, both has nice beaches and Gillele has a cosy fishing harbour with seafood restaurants etc. Both can be reached in under 1,5 hour by just taking the S-train to Hillerød and change for Lokaltogs train to either Tisvildeleje or Gilleleje,

I will check out the other places you mentioned for day trips. I don't mind a straight 2-hour Drive, that is probably the max I would consider. So if I can drive myself or get a tour co. who would take us, I would consider that. But 3.5 hrs. and dealing with buses and trains and Ferries is out of the question. jenmbobbs Posted March 8, 2018 #688 Share Posted March 8, 2018 Hi all! I'm just doing some scouting about for our excursions and have come across the National Aquarium in Copenhagen. As our young son is all things "Blue Planet" I think this would be a fabulous place to visit for him. We ended up spending much longer than expected, there is lots to see including beautiful tropical tanks and a really huge tank with rays and sharks. There was lots of interaction and explanation from the staff too. I'd recommend it. Sent from my SM-T813 using Forums mobile app

poss Posted March 10, 2018 #694 Share Posted March 10, 2018 Is anyone able to compare the National Aquarium in Copenhagen with the National Aquarium in Baltimore in the States-- or with the Monterey Aquarium in CA? Equally interesting and varied? Thanks.
Danish viking Posted March 11, 2018 Author #695 Share Posted March 11, 2018 They are almost equal in side. The one in Copenhagen has 20.000 animals divided by 450 species and the tanks holds 7 million liters. The building itself is 12.000 sqm large. In Baltimore the same numbers are 17.000, 700, 8, 3 million liters and 20.000 sqm. So besides the total square meters its almost comparable. Danish viking Posted March 12, 2018 Author #696 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Bus 25´s timetable is loaded into the journeyplanner. A random search reveals that it starts from Nørreport at 08:20 and goes every 20th minute (XX:00, XX:20 and XX:40) until 22:40. But I think there is a malfuction because on the 5th of May there is no ships scheduled. However, there is 2 ships at Oceankaj on the 6th of May and here the last bus runs at 16:40 from Nørreport and will be at the port just 5 minutes before both ships depart. But Else its the same departures with the first at 08:20. The bus will be at Østerport 5 minutes after departure from Nørreport and 15 minutes after it will be at Oceankaj. From Østerport The first 27 runs at 07:58, then its on minute 28 and 58 until 17:58 From Oceankaj the first 25 bus will run at 08:00 and has he same departure times as in Nørreport (00, 20 and 40) and the last one from the pier is 16:40. Bus 27 runs every 30th minutes from the pier at 08:16, 08:46, 09:16 etc etc until 18:16 Please notice that these are weekend bus timetables. If you have a specific day I can look it up for you. So no complain about expensive taxies, you have 6 busses each hour to choose from. ;p;p http://journeyplanner.dk/
zuccarc Posted March 12, 2018 #697 Share Posted March 12, 2018 What a wonderful thread! Danish Viking you are a treasure! I have been reading all the pages in this thread and have a question about an AirbnB in Copenhagen. Since they do not list the exact address on the site until you book, I wonder if you an tell me about the neighborhood that is listed. The listing says "Istedgade near Reventlowsgade (train station). Is this a nice area? There are no reviews on this place as it is a new listing. It is listed at a decent price and because we would need two hotel rooms, are considering it. Would you have any other suggestions? We are a family of four (mother, father, child, and grandmother), hence the need for two hotel rooms. Thanks so much for your help. Danish viking Posted March 12, 2018 Author #698 Share Posted March 12, 2018 It has a rumour of being the red light district of Copenhagen but the area has seen some gentrification in preperation for the metro station that opens next year so its not that bad anymore. There are still some porn shops at Istedgade and I will not rule out the possibility that you can meet a street hooker late at night (but they mostly keep themself to the area around Skelbækgade) but generally the area should be okay. You will find a lot of the trendy hotels in this area so its a vibrant area.
