Dinner attire on Norwegian Sun in Alaska

Can someone tell me what most people wear to dinner in the main dinning room on the Sun in Alaska? It seems nice jeans are allowed but do many wear them? Trying to decide what to pack.

Thank you in advance.

There are a lot of people wearing nice jeans (and some even wear not-so-nice jeans) in the main dining rooms. You'll see an occasional person in a tank top and raggedy edged shorts too. There really isn't much of a dress code for the MDR on NCL so whatever you wear will be OK!

You do have to wear shoes and a shirt to dinner, and I have read in the Freestyle Daily in the past that swimwear isn't acceptable. But honestly, I've seen almost everything in the MDR.

Most people (not all) dress as though they were going out to dinner in a nice restaurant or out to a club. Nice jeans are required for the Seven Seas Main Dining Room.

NCL: When it comes to what to wear, you can go resort casual or get decked-out and look your best - it’s your call. That’s the freedom of Freestyle Cruising. We even have special “Dress-Up or Not Night.” It’s the perfect opportunity to get your portrait taken with your family, that special someone or even with the ship’s Captain. Dress cruise casual anytime during the day, in the buffet and in most specialty restaurants. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required. Cruise casual is also allowed day and night on embarkation day.

Wear smart casual if you are eating dinner in the Seven Seas main dining room and in Le Bistro. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it’s jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes.

We want you to be comfortable, but tank tops for men, flip flops, baseball caps, visors and jeans that are overly faded, with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted in main dining rooms or specialty restaurants. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all our restaurants. You may want to pack a sweater too—air conditioning can be chilly. Since your suitcases are collected the night before we return home, don’t forget an overnight bag for prescriptions and need-to-have items.

we wore jeans and sweaters every night as we were so cold. our sailing was in september last year and we had pouring rain every day. by dinner time, even with a hot shower under our belts, all we wanted was warm clothes!!!!

Formal attire for Alaska - A plaid long sleeve shirt and lumberjack jeans - for footwear almost any thing except flip-flops.

If you just came out of the woods taking pictures of wild life or being chased out - you are good to go - HOWEVER don't

scare your fellow cruisers without taking a shower removing all traces of a battle with bloody sucking mosquitos;

a bear mauling or swimming with the salmon (hatchery) ! LOL !

Dress warmly it can be decidedly chilly at night even if the sun is up way past it's bedtime.

Alaska is perhaps the least formal cruise destination of anywhere NCL cruises.
