Teen program

Is there a teen curfew? Specifically for ages 12-14. I assume the night activities end at the curfew time.

I believe the curfew is 1am for those under 18.

YOU can set your own curfew! I wouldn't let my 12 year old have "run of the ship"! If they are IN an activity, then that's fine, but you need to make sure of their whereabouts...roaming kids are never up to good things!

I was hoping for an earlier time. We are taking our 12 year old granddaughter on the Anthem. What kind of night activities are usually scheduled for 12 year olds?

You have the ultimate decision as to when her curfew will be. I believe official activities end at 10 pm. No need for a 12 year old being out later than that unless she is with you.

I had given my son a curfew when we boarded. Later that day he learned that the Captain/ ship had a 1am curfew. The next day when we met the Captain I asked him if HE was going to be the one waiting up for my son to get Home! [emoji3]

We are taking our 13 year old granddaughter on the Anthem on July 6 th and agree that 1am is too late. Any idea who to speak to?

There's no one to speak to, you are the guardian, you are in charge and responsible for your minors. It's a blanket 1:00 am for all minors. They aren't going to set special rules, that's for parents to enforce, not any cruise ship.

If she's going to be in the teen club activities end by 10 PM, after that its up to you when you want her back by.

We are also taking our grandchildren on a cruise....the Oasis next Sunday. They have cruised with us since the age of 3 and have a lot of experience. However, the day has finally the come... one is 13 and the other 8. My husband and I have discussed in detail the "rules" and behavior we expect from the 13 yr old whom we will give some "freedom "to. The 8 year old will not leave our side except to go to Adventure Ocean.

We will discuss with the 13 yr old about not going into other cabins and no one in ours, checking in every few hours... we bought her a watch and a sign in and out board. Any bad behavior that starts with her new friends she has made, she is to leave immediately. There have been tons of suggestions from others on this board to help us.

These children are your responsibility and you should set the rules upfront and talk to your grandchild so there is no "misunderstanding". What will the ship do?.... if they do something really dumb ,escort you off at the next stop.

Happy cruising...

The texting app has worked well for us. It isn't perfect--sometimes it takes quite a while for the receiver to get the text and you have to sort of keep track of the app to see if you have a text--but we say that after 10pm they need to send us at least one text an hour and be looking for us to respond.

There are some activities that last until 11pm or even later (rollerskating parties, dodgeball disco, etc) and with us, if the kids want to do those, we say yes but they cannot leave the organized activity at that hour without getting express permission from us--even if takes a while for them to connect with us.

Depending on what ship you're on, the kids may all hang out at Sorrentos or the Seaplex, or something like that. We also say no hanging out in hallways--always in a main area like the Promenade or something.

Being out past 10pm sounds crazy at home, but on the ship, the kids could be with you at dinner or a show until almost 10 and so then spending an hour or two with the teens isn't a big add on. Just depends on what you're comfortable doing.

On Allure in January and Harmony in March there were activities scheduled for the teens (12-17) that started every night at 11 or 11:30. A couple of these activities went until 2 in the morning. The kids were also told by the youth star that when the event ended that they were allowed to go to Sorrentos for pizza before heading back to their cabins.

I suggest getting the text feature so you can get ahold of them when ever you want to. Its not perfect but pretty good.

It also allows the kids to communicate with each other. To meet up ect. Makes it easier for them to stay in touch with their friends.

I find that a clear set of rules makes for a easier cruise for everyone involved. We tell our kids they are not allowed down the cabin hallways to cross the ship. I do not believe someone is laying in wait to grab my kid. But a pack of teens crossing the ship can be very noisy and annoying to other guests or staff as they run down the long hallways.

It is 1am on Jewel recently and from what i remember on other ships...However; they do say if part of official activity then it can be extended...however; apart from New Year on a previous cruise can't recollect that being the case activities ongoing after 1.

There may or may not be a lot of teen activities on any given ship. It depends on the number of kids who show up for each activity. We sailed on the Brilliance out of Harwich during the summer of 2015. There was a teen activity every night, and our 12 year old return promptly at midnight every night.

But, during spring break of 2016 on the Majesty, every activity was cancelled due to lack of interest. Our theory was that so many family groups travel together that, despite there being more than 800 passengers under the age of 18, that teens had enough siblings and/or cousins that they didn't need to go to an activity. So, our only child was in bed before 10 every night, out of sheer boredom.

This is what I'm worried about with our 12yo. She has loved the kids programs in the past, but now that she's considered a "teen" I'm worried she'll get bored. We'll be leaving out on our first RCL cruise (priors have all been on CCL) in February, and last year's spring break cruise had very few kids compared to the previous May cruise. I mean, at least the kids' (3-11) activities are structured and don't tend to get cancelled. I guess we'll be spending extra time with her this go-round if that's the case. :)

My son is very extroverted and loves joining in on fun. His first time on Royal he won "king of the cruise" or something like that (and he only started going day 3ish because he and I had been sick for three weeks beforehand and he was sleeping to recuperate). He has joined in talent shows.

Then he turned 12. He went to the teen club once, the first night, and wouldn't go back. Too much swearing, too grownup, not nice older teens. Oh and he's tall, mature looking, and his voice is just about done changing. He passes as older and one of his better friends was 17 then. It just wasn't pleasant for him. Add to that the fact that there were no activities and he was done.

We spent a lot of quality time with him.
