Fish Lover Posted May 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2017 well, since they seem to always be booked, I guess they haven't exceeded the amount people are willing to pay.
Marelaine Posted May 22, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2017 Its's not worth it to us, so we just don't book alcoves. It's as simple as that.
fielddreamer Posted May 22, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2017 When we were on in Dec 17 the Alcoves were alnost empty the entire cruise ! It is a waste of $
jelayne Posted May 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 23, 2017 We booked an alcove once and it turned out to be a cloudy rainy day:eek:. DH isn't a pool/sun person so decided we probably wouldn do it again & with tge price increase we definitely won't do it again❗️

steve ch Posted May 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 23, 2017 Just off Reflection's first Med cruise of the season....... the alcoves were never used. It left them free for the crew to do some sanding and varnishing. That's about all the action there was.

watchdiva Posted May 23, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 23, 2017 We don't think spending $99 for a port day alcove makes us stupid. DH cannot be in full sun and we enjoy hanging out on those days we don't get off in port. It ticks me off when someone makes a comment such as above...don't judge what you don't know. Pool area is too crowded and noisy for our taste. And the Alcove gives us just what we are looking for. And a Butler.
watchdiva Posted May 23, 2017 #11 Share Posted May 23, 2017 We also love the S1 suites. It's all a matter of personal choice. What is worth it to one may not be worth it to another. That's what makes cruising so much fun...there is something for everyone. The $249 is for sea days and it is very windy up there; $99 is for port days on Reflection. waterbug123 Posted May 24, 2017 #12 Share Posted May 24, 2017 i think it is ridiculous that celebrity raised rates for alcoves from $149.00 to $249.00 per nightLarry Why is it ridiculous? If people are willing to pay, then it's a smart business decision. Supply and demand.... Stupid money lives on! That sounds rather insulting. YOU may not choose to spend your money this way, but I'd be willing to be there is something in your life that you DO choose to spend money on that someone else would find unnecessary or "stupid." Everyone decides what's important to them.

Us too. We like having a guaranteed place to sit outside that isn't right by the pool. We enjoy the people watching around the lawn, we enjoy the ability to choose (weather permitting) sun or shade, etc. We haven't cruised since the price increase, but since we usually share an alcove with friends, we still wouldn't be paying $249 ourselves. Everyone decides what's important to them and what they want to spend money on. :)

Probably there are some stupid expenditures in my past, but not many since a smart financial approach allowed me to retire at age 44 and cruise and travel 5-6 months a year in the 20+ years since then. Supply and demand? The alcoves were empty, according to a poster from a cruise this month.
Rare missthesea Posted May 24, 2017 #15 Share Posted May 24, 2017 I don't think anyone is stupid for spending their money as they like. I didn't read the OP's post to mean that. We all pick what we will spend on. I do think, though, that if Celebrity keeps adding and increasing fees and using more space for special "for fee areas", they will push some of us to other cruise lines. That's sad for us, but perhaps fine with Celebrity. We chose the Equinox in part because the lawn was open to all the glass show included for everyone. Cruise a holic Posted May 25, 2017 #16 Share Posted May 25, 2017 To each his/her own. I think it is stupid that people spend money in the casino or to have somebody Manipulating your back and smelling it up. People will spend a fortune to be pampered. So if you like and can afford an Alcove, enjoy it. Personally I like an alcove also. Enjoy
slhat10 Posted May 25, 2017 #17 Share Posted May 25, 2017 I simply can't wait to experience our alcove on our 6/9th cruise!!! I reserved a sea day for $149/day--thought it was well worth it--guess we'll have to see!! Not sure when the rate went up, but happy to have it already reserved and paid for. (Hope people don't come by just to look to see what stupid people look like that reserve those alcoves! But, if you do--wave!)

Supply and demand? The alcoves were empty, according to a poster from a cruise this month. We've cruised and seen empty alcoves and it doesn't necessarily mean they weren't rented. We were part of a big group once that had rented 3 or 4 of them but everyone congregated in and around 1 of them. The others were empty and I would imagine people walked by shaking their heads and how X was unable to rent them, LOL. Beyond that, X doesn't look at it on a cruise by cruise basis; I'm sure they look at the overall revenue generated and overall, the revenue from the alcoves must warrant the current prices, even if they don't seem particularly popular on this specific cruise or that one. As for your personal expenditures, there are people in the world who would find it "stupid" to spend money to be on a cruise ship 5 or 6 months of the year, even if you are retired. But that is YOUR preference, just as some who could retire choose not to because they truly love the work they do. And some who perhaps choose to cruise less but splurge on some things you find "stupid." :)
ChucktownSteve Posted May 25, 2017 #19 Share Posted May 25, 2017 If they charge it, you will spend. That's the Celebrity philosophy. Apparently they're correct. Next up...gourmet pre-frozen burgers Sent from my iPhone using Forums

(Hope people don't come by just to look to see what stupid people look like that reserve those alcoves! But, if you do--wave!) As somebody previously said, they like the corning glass show which is available on all but the Reflection and Silhouette. We personally have seen the show a couple of times and enough is enough. We sail to warm climates in the winter and if you see the show, you sit on hard stadium type wooden benches for a couple of hours. The area is very hot- made hotter by the ovens creating the glass works. If you have a bad back- you might walk out- I think that while the show the first perhaps two times is interesting- after that it is" ground hogs day", and not the good days! The lawn grill is our favorite shipboard specialty restaurant and only available on the Silly and Reflection. You will enjoy the alcoves, while they might appear to be "empty', when we book them, sometimes for the week (we get a discount for a week) , we go to the Alcoves a few times during the day- not all day- We enjoy not having to deal with chair hogs- or being stuck in the sun all day, or on the smoking side of the pool.
