mcgore83 Posted June 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2017 Traveling on the Vista to the Southern Carribean in December, yeah! Just wondering how often ships miss this port? I have been following these boards and recently saw that this port was skipped due to high winds. Just curious.
cruiserking Posted June 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2017 I'm not aware of Curacao being a missed port. It's pretty deep in the Southern Caribbean. There is a pier to handle mega ships. You shouldn't have a problem, beautiful place. Jonathan Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Forums mobile app
joepeka Posted June 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2017 The couple of times we've been there it was a bit "breezy" but not enough to prevent docking in Willemstad.
Doggielover68 Posted June 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 3, 2017 I would say it is not very frequent. The ABC islands are always pretty windy, but Curacao and Aruba both have a pier. Most likely won't have an issue Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

iamsteph Posted June 3, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 3, 2017 Was on the May 20 sailing of the Vista. We missed Curacao due to high winds and waves. :(
maxydu Posted June 4, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Have been there on 3 cruises that went there and never missed the port....
Rare Tapi Posted June 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 4, 2017 I've only been there on a cruise ship once, but I've flown in there countless times for work. The winds are frequently hellacious. It's always clear skies and gusty winds. I don't know how often it's missed as a port of call, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's more often than other ports. OCruisers Posted June 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Gosh, we've been going to Curacao for decades (no joke ... time goes by) and have never missed a scheduled port stop there.
lmorrisbal Posted June 4, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 4, 2017 We also missed Curaçao on the Vista. But the wind and waves were so high it was evident that the Captain made a good decision!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
mcgore83 Posted June 4, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Thank you for your replies! Last week was the first time I read someone missed this port. I am hoping we are able to anchor and this stop will be the longest one on our journey. I welcome all replies, thank you, the CC family rocks!
Hoosierpop Posted June 4, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Never missed curaçao. Missed Aruba once because of winds. Sent from my iPad using Forums
lizzyplague Posted June 4, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 4, 2017 We missed it on the May 20th sailing. Our tour guide in Aruba said the winds were just as bad there the same day.
richfret Posted June 4, 2017 #14 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Missed Aruba during a cruise and it is a sister island to Curacao. If you can miss one, you can miss the other. Just in passing, how did they came up with the spelling of Curacao when it sounds like Carosell? Every time I write Curacao I have to look it up for the correct spelling. luv2trvlnow Posted June 4, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 4, 2017 We were on the Conquest in May. We didn't miss Curacao but we were late in docking due to the high winds. It was also very windy in Aruba but arrived there with no problem. We did get sand blasted on the beach in Aruba though. So I would say it is possible to miss one of these ports due to high wind and waves. I just don't know how often this happens and if a certain time of year is worse than others. sandij Posted June 4, 2017 #16 Share Posted June 4, 2017 We've been there three times and never heard of any possibility of missing it, it's not a tender port and they don't get hurricanes much down there. It is a lovely island.
sonicbuffalo Posted June 4, 2017 #17 Share Posted June 4, 2017 We've been there and Aruba on ships 3 times and never missed due to anything. Beautiful island!
Homosassa Posted June 4, 2017 #18 Share Posted June 4, 2017 We have been cruising there since the mid 1970's. We have never missed the port. However, the Queen Emma Bridge (the pontoon bridge that swing open to allow passage to ships docking in the boat channel) has broken and caused ships that were scheduled to dock in the channel to cancel the port. Because the larger ships dock outside the channel, the bridge would not be a problem. I could see how strong winds from the wrong direction would cause problems at the outside dock. cb at sea Posted June 4, 2017 #19 Share Posted June 4, 2017 ANY port can be missed due to sea or weather conditions...but luckily, that's not the norm!
coevan Posted June 4, 2017 #20 Share Posted June 4, 2017 sorry but as a Captain, this post is like asking "will it be very windy and big waves on Dec. 15 next year" Any given day, any day of the year you can have good weather or bad weather. About one week before your cruise, not 6 months, check www.windguru.com the weather.com website is not very accurate. Many sailors use windguru
Crusin5252 Posted June 4, 2017 #21 Share Posted June 4, 2017 We have been there twice, once in October and once in February. We ported both times.
