HUNGRYGREEK Posted June 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Just of the NCL Dawn on Friday the 16'th and the cruise was mostly very good but in about 12 cruises this is the first time a good number of us has personal items stolen while in the pool or hot tub. People nearby just think that someone is vacating a lounger because they pick up everything there and quickly walk off. It seems like they go through the pockets and the inside of your shoes looking for your tipping cash or watches etc. the stolen clothes and shoes are never found or turned in so they are being thrown away someplace nearby. Also some purses were stolen and never found , mostly in the confusion when the shops were busy. NCL staff could care less and at customer service they wont even apologize or even offer to replace your pool towels-which are always taken as well. Have others noticed more of this on recent cruises ?

triptolemus Posted June 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) The proverbial "us"..! What did YOU allegedly have stolen and what were the circumstances of that? I've never heard of, seen, or experienced this. In fact, quite the opposite. Usually, my hat, shirt, shades, whatever is sitting right where I left it after having realized it was missing. Most folks tend to lose things rather than having them nipped as evidenced by the large amount of posts requesting information about lost and found. rebeccalouiseagain Posted June 18, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2017 If that happened- I would suspect it is kids doing it, and it probably isn't a common occurrence. I would never leave something unattended that I care about. Leave the watches, jewelry, and such in the cabin. I've cruised at least 40 times and have never had anything stolen. I did lose my camera in the theater, went to the front desk, and sure enough- someone had turned it in.
Zeta3 Posted June 18, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2017 How would you know they are going through shoes and pockets if you didn't see them and the items were never found? Are you sure you weren't just chair hogging and the items were removed and placed at the towel hut? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Two Wheels Only Posted June 18, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Does anyone else get the feeling that this will turn into a "Why you shouldn't be a chairhog...." thread? If it isnt, what would the OP want/expect NCL customer service to do in cases of theft?
DMH15 Posted June 18, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2017 This reminds me of when my niece told me someone stole her itouch device. After probing she admitted she had left it on the counter. I asked her to what extent, by percentage, she was responsible for. People cannot steal your stuff if you are watching it. I asked her to what extent, by percentage, she was responsible for. She pondered and said a realistic number. People cannot steal your stuff if you are watching it. Unless it is a grab and run... Shanlon42 Posted June 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 18, 2017 I had my purse stolen on the Dawn back in 2006 on my first cruise while I was at Spinnakers the first night :( I was so new to cruising I had cash, credit cards & my camera in there *facepalm* We met with security and they took all my info, let me make some calls to my bank & they also reviewed video. But of course it was too dark to see anything. None of my stuff ever turned up so I'm sure the valuables were taken & the rest chucked overboard. I didn't expect to ever see any of it again, anyway. Unfortunately theft can happen anywhere & at any time. The experience taught me some very valuable life/cruise lessons: never ever ever leave valuables unattended (even for a moment) & make good use of the safe (y)
NH Cruisers Posted June 18, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Things will get stolen if your not watching and protecting your valuables. You alone are responsible for your personal possessions. Don't blame cruise staff or the cruise line if your valuables get stolen. Crimes of opportunity, don't give any opportunities.
tallnthensome Posted June 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) I don't know why people are making a joke about this or don't believe it. There are thieves everywhere including on cruise ships. I believe the original poster and it's terrible. Why some think it's easy or even possible to watch your stuff every second is beyond be. Do you really have to clean off your lounger every time you walk into the hot tub or pool? The restroom? The bar for a drink? You shouldn't have to ..... My advice is have your sail card and just a few $$ singles for bar tips .... wear a waterproof watch, no need to take it off. Leave valuables, purses, credit cards, ID, etc in cabin safe. There is no need to haul that stuff around with you on a ship. Edited June 19, 2017 by tallnthensome
phissy Posted June 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 19, 2017 I have had items taken from lounge chair. Left to use restroom and left a printed sign (made beforehand) that stated 'lounge Occupied , will return shortly) Paperback turned in to lost and found, all other items not. Predators are everywhere. Many are on cruises, in a "professional" manner. Don't become an easy target, IMHO.
elainemasey61 Posted June 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Hi John, sorry to hear that you and others had items stolen. It always looked like a lot of fun by the pool but soo crowded. No one would notice if someone was stealing. We never found chairs that close but watched from the stadium seating above. We had better experiences. Steve left his camera in Bliss and Andrew dropped his wallet in the casino and both had been quickly turned into guest services. I think we think that cruising is "safe" and we let our guard down more so than a city type vacation. Unfortunately theft can be anytime/anyplace. We also need to remember (and remind the kids)that bad/strange people also cruise. Did you happen to be in Bliss Saturday night with creepy guy? That guy was weird and looking for a fight! Never saw him anyplace after and some thought more security in Bliss the next night. Sent from my iPad using Forums

karoo Posted June 19, 2017 #16 Share Posted June 19, 2017 I had my phone taken while doing a dance class on the Sun. I asked guest services to look at CCTV to view what happened to it. It took a while as they insisted searching my cabin first even though I knew it was on a table next to the dance floor. Once it was located the lady said she thought it was her son's as it was exactly the same. My phone is white with a diamanté glitzy phone cover. Unsure if her son's was exactly the same?????? sfaaa Posted June 19, 2017 #17 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Last year, there was a post about stolen luggage left in the hallway on last sea day evening. Turned out the thieves were some other passengers on the same deck. So yeah, if you don't want your stuff stolen, don't leave them laying around unattended be it on a ship or on land. Have others noticed more of this on recent cruises ? Purses being stolen is an 'of course' they were, why anyone would leave a purse unattended is beyond me. But the stealing of clothing and pool towels sounds more like chair hog stuff being moved than petty theft. I never leave items of value somewhere where they are out of my reach in public but no, have never had an issue with my coverup, sandals, and pool towel being taken when I leave my chair for 15 minutes at a time. That sounds odd. Not sure why NCL staff would owe you an apology though? Sent from my iPhone using Forums

oneplustwins Posted June 19, 2017 #21 Share Posted June 19, 2017 One of my biggest pet peeves on boards like this - the people who are convinced that since it never happened to them, then it could never happen to anyone else. Why does everyone automatically assume the OP in posts like these are either embellishing or down right lying? I also have never had anything stolen from me, and also never leave anything of value unattended, but I would never question the validity of the OP's story... But I bring one of those waterproof bags with me. So I just pop it in the bag and take it with me if I want to cool off. Or my travelling companion stays at sun bed while I get wet. 😀 Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
myfuzzy Posted June 19, 2017 #23 Share Posted June 19, 2017 You are normally withing a 5 minute walk to your cabin, I have seen women carry bags so big, I think they carry their whole house with them when they leave their cabin. Leave everything in your cabin and for that matter valuables in your safe, you don't need to carry everything with you. If you are going to the pool, your towel and maybe a book, that if it goes missing who cares.
biker@sea Posted June 19, 2017 #24 Share Posted June 19, 2017 I was on the same cruise. The cruise next folks had to rig a bunge cord to a free tote bag offer outside there office to keep it from theft. I was told someone made off with the previous stack.:(
LrgPizza Posted June 19, 2017 #25 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Practically every inch of these ships are viewable by security cameras, so I'm sure NCL reviewed the footage to see the thieves in action. They could then follow the thieves on various cameras and watch exactly what they do with the stolen items, which then would have been recovered. If purses were being stolen, they certainly would have done this.
