5 day cruises in the Caribbean

What are five day cruises like? I know on some lines they are a "booze" cruise. Is it like that on Princess? We have two b2b booked just to get in a quick getaway (and get two more cruises towards being Elite). These 5 day cruises follow a longer cruise coming from Canada to reposition into the Caribbean. There are two five day cruises before there is an 8 day cruise.

The only five-day Caribbean cruise we've been on was Celebrity, and it was most definitely a boozy one. There was a large group on board, travel agents according to some we talked to, who claimed they'd been banned from Carnival because of their boozy ways. They were loud and obnoxious and hollering stuff from their balconies that would make Key West blush.

I'm not sure what the passenger base would have looked like if this group had not signed on, but it made me wary. And a lot of people say Princess and Celebrity are a lot alike. So ... could happen.

I will say, though, that we took a four-day followed by a three-day on Princess (both the L.A.-Ensenada run) and it wasn't as much of a party ship as I had expected.

We have taken a 5 Day on Princess (B2B) after having been on a longer 14 Day to extend our cruise five more days. No problem! There were more younger couples but was by no means a "booze cruise". Enjoy! :D

Anyone know if suites offer exactly the same amenities on the shorter cruises? Some good prices are being offered on some of the 5 day Caribbean cruises in suite categories.

Hi Dorothy! Yes it's the same as a longer cruise. :)

Thanks for the responses thus far. Anyone else care to comment about 5 day Caribbean cruises?

I did a 5-day Caribbean cruise on the Crown several years ago. It was the cruise right before the Christmas voyage, so it seemed like school was already out for the holidays. Lots of families and teens, so the atmosphere was a little livelier than on a longer, port-intensive cruise, but not out of the norm for a typical 7-day Caribbean cruise. I noticed there were lots of blue cards up in the cardholders (not that that's a bad thing -- it made the Suite/Elite nibblies hour much less crowded!).

My only complaint was it was too short!

I'd do another 5-day without hesitation or concern. Let's face it, drunk and/or rowdy and/or unpleasant groups can be on any length cruise. The nice thing about the Crown is the wide number of pools where you can easily find an escape from questionable behaviour (unlike the Regal, for example: too many kids, too little pool space on that ship.)

We have done a few 4 & 5 day cruises on Princess. Only time there was a problem was when we booked too far into March and many college students were on board with a free booze package. 😨😨 Wow! That was the only time it happened and even then it didn't ruin my cruise! We now try to book so cruise is ending by March 1 or book longer ones. You don't really know when all the colleges are out for spring break but we never have many kids or college kids prior to March.

The complimentary specialty restaurant on the first night is for cruises six days or longer. All the other suite amenities apply for the shorter cruises - even the one day ones. You will still get the same minibar - two if you'll also Elite. You will still have the suite breakfast in Sabatini's or the Crown Grill (except on disembarkation morning). You will still have Club Class dining. You can still order from the full MDR menu for room service. You still receive two cruise credits.

We took a 5-day cruise on the Ruby a few years ago and had a great cruise--just too short. We've also taken 3- and 4-day cruises back to back. The 5-day is a bit more subdued than the shorter ones, but they're nowhere as wild as the one Carnival cruise we took (5-day) in terms of out of control children and drunk college age kids.

Our last two cruises were 5 days and I have another on the books for February. I enjoy this format because it allows me to book a higher level cabin. I can't afford the PH on X for a week but I can handle 5 days. We fly into FLL and spend a night someplace nice. This turns a 5 day cruise into a 6 day vacation and takes all the stress out of embarkation day. An additional benefit is arriving or departing on something other than the weekend. I've been to all the ports normally included on 5 day itineraries and I simply consider every day a day at sea.

We've never had an issue with drunks but we tend to dine in the room and visit the casino early. However, I have witnessed a fist-fight in the MDR on Carnival. That was the end of the 'Fun Ships' for me.
