Bazzybuggs Posted July 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Do all you regular cruisers have any particular habits on embarkation? I mean things like heading first for the pool or buffet (or wherever is open at the start). Any tips for a first timer? EmeraldCoastCruisers Posted July 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Head to the buffet and walk around getting acclimated. We head to the pool area before we leave, but aren't ones to run to the pool suit in hand. Sent from my iPad using Forums

A&Jfamily Posted July 10, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2017 As a general rule drop our luggage and then grab a bite to eat. The Lido deck can get really crowded as people board. Then we stroll the ship and have a drink. We will grab some snacks (cheese, fruit) for sail away and return to our room to get unpacked and settled in before muster. We will relax on our balcony and watch people board and prep the ship. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
jayscore Posted July 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Fortunately, we can go right to our cabin, drop off our stuff, and head to the Lido before it gets mobbed. Otherwise, I'd head straight for the Lido and snag someplace to sit. Then find out who in your group is willing to stand guard over the table and bags while the other(s) get some lunch, and return so you can have your turn. After that, you're on your own until your cabin is ready.;)
Rare Saint Greg Posted July 10, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 10, 2017 I avoid the buffet. It's loaded and It's like animals at a trough. I try to get settled into the room as much as possible. Grab a drink, then grab something to eat just before or just after muster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Catrin Posted July 10, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Mongolian Wok is my traditional first lunch. It's the only time during the cruise with no lines!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cruisealot Posted July 10, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Walk on the ship and straight to the Lobby Bar for a drink or two!
Roscoe13 Posted July 10, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Board ship, ignore helpful minded employees trying to direct me. Make a bee line for my room, drop off carryons and ensure pre-ordered alcohol is sitting in the cabin beckoning to me. Bee line to Guys and order the drink of the day to wash it down. Pose for a selfie with the DOD strategically placed in the shot, post it on Facebook to my peeps stuck in 42 degrees and rain.
LVNV Cruiser Posted July 10, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Like others have said, lunch buffet and then explore the ship. You will spend the first days finding the places you want to go, having seen them on the first day helps. Cafeteria, dining room, pool, spa, theater & different show venues, guest services, excursions, stores, photo sales, bars, restaurants, etc

I always feel vacation starts after we are unpacked and the drill completed.
GingerMT/TX Posted July 10, 2017 #15 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Walk on the ship and straight to the Lobby Bar for a drink or two! That is exactly what we do -- I usually have a Funship!👍
angiebachner Posted July 10, 2017 #16 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Straight to the lido to get lunch for the kids (ages 11&13) then we give them the map of the ship and send them on a "scavenger hunt" to find areas we want to make sure they know how to find. Our room is priority! After that camp carnival, the teen clubs, 24 hour ice cream, the piano bar, gift shop, stage with all the shows, guest services, and the doctor! We usually get on the ship as soon as they open boarding so it's not crowded. By the time they have found everything they usually come back and say our room is open and have their swimsuits on....and we have made friends with the lido bartenders and pool side waitstaff. JayDeeJay Posted July 10, 2017 #17 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Drop any carry ons in cabin, head for the Lido, post haste. There's a Drink Of The Day and cheeseburger with MY name on it. I mean things like heading first for the pool or buffet (or wherever is open at the start). Any tips for a first timer? Sent from my iPad using Forums After dropping my carry-on in my cabin and changing into my swimsuit and cover-up, I get an umbrella drink and find a place to sun. That's a good time to sunbathe or enjoy the pool because most others are eating and wandering around checking out the ship. I usually wait to eat just before the muster drill because it is a lot less crowded then. The food places close during the drill so it has to be timed accordingly.
