jjmock Posted July 31, 2017 #51 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Maybe the OP shouldnt be so proud of "being out drunk" Have some class and other people might treat you accordingly. From your complaints after one day, you sound like you are very high maintenance and they've probably sensed that already. Bailey & Sophie Posted July 31, 2017 #54 Share Posted July 31, 2017 I understand the compulsion to compare cruise lines and ships. Our first RCI cruise was on Legend, after 5 Celebrity cruises, the last 3 in a row on the huge Equinox. When we boarded the Celebrity cruises, we were always met with champagne, mimosas or OJ. On the Legend they were vacuuming the entrance and NO welcoming beverages. We just looked at each other and shrugged. It could have gone down hill from there, but we didn't let it. It was hard not to compare the Equinox with the Legend. However, after a couple of hours, we just got over it and went with it. We had a blast, and found things on the Legend that weren't available on the Equinox or Celebrity!!
Ocean Boy Posted July 31, 2017 #55 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Sorry to disagree, but original post indicated OP asked to have a bed made up for his mother to spend the night in his cabin. That's the reason for the comments regarding cabin capacity, etc. The request was worded to have a bed made up, not just an extra pillow/blanket. Having guests in your cabin does not extend to having an extra bed made up on the couch. As you pointed out, it's not a dormitory. You are expected to sleep in the cabin assigned to you and paid for. Have you ever read about some of those chartered "lifestyle" cruises?

crbonfiber Posted July 31, 2017 #58 Share Posted July 31, 2017 I think if you gave him a nice tip at your first request you would have had a different result. If you take care of them they will take care of you. Im surprised a degenerate gambler like yoursef would over look that. IMHO

Having guests in your cabin does not extend to having an extra bed made up on the couch. As you pointed out, it's not a dormitory. You are expected to sleep in the cabin assigned to you and paid for. Actually the post was somewhat unclear: "I asked my stateroom attendant to set an extra bed on the couch for my mom to stay on the nights I'm in the casino or just out drunk, and he's giving me a hard time. Giving me looks when I asked for an additional pillow and blanket for my mom." Not sure what is meant by "set an extra bed on the couch". In any event, if the request was just for a pillow and blanket, then I wouldn't think there's anything wrong with that. I wouldn't think that people are required or expected to sleep in their assigned room. Have you seen something to indicate that they are?

shirazcruiser Posted July 31, 2017 #62 Share Posted July 31, 2017 You said "I asked my stateroom attendant to set an extra bed on the couch for my mom to stay on the nights I'm in the casino or just out drunk, and he's giving me a hard time. Giving me looks when I asked for an additional pillow and blanket for my mom." Possibly your attendant was "annoyed" since he is only receiving gratuities for 2 people and he may feel you're asking him to occasionally take care of 3 people. Just a thought. weespeed Posted July 31, 2017 Author #66 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Just got back from zip lining and swimming and some of these responses are just wow. It doesn't matter if I'm a male or female. Why should it? Having my mother watch my son while I'm out gambling, drinking or going to church doesn't matter. Why should it? My request was a pillow and blanket so my mom can sleep on the couch while I'm out. That was it. The steward asked me if she was moving in. I didnt mention that. I don't know any of you and none of you know me. I've owned several restaurants and owned a night club in San Francisco. I know what customer service is. If I didn't I wouldn't have been successful with my businesses. If I saw my bar back grab a customer's glass with a dirty look, he/she would have had a talking to. Because that unsatisfied customer may not come back and that hurts my bottom line. I'm very partial to people in the service industry. Having had restaurants and having to work in them I know how hard it is to serve people. I know there are great people and there are difficult people you must deal with all day. Having experience that I am very aware of not being in the same class as 'difficult people'. Doesn't matter if this is RCL, Ncl, Xxx whatever cruise lines. If I'm given attitude when none was given I'll be irked. I came on cruise critic to share how I felt and more than anything to vent because I am passive aggressive and won't say anything unless it's really egregious. Having vented, I seem to have triggered so many as if Im bashing their child. Like some poster who bashes my children and never even met anyone of them. This was my first critique thread and will probably be my last. To those with kind words and tips thanks. So far my cruise has been better. The casino was very good to me even though baccarat isn't my game of choice, it was very kind to me. My steward has had a change of attitude and comes by asking if I need anything constantly. When he asked if I needed my room turned down for the night and if I needed the couch made, I said no its fine. He kept asking in an apologetic tone. Maybe he was having a bad day. I get that and that's why I wasn't going to complain to anyone higher up. Still annoyed me and I vented. Here's to a great rest of my cruise, cheers. jjmock Posted July 31, 2017 #67 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Are you implying that a man has less responsibility as a parent because he's a man? Not at all; from the original post, though, it does to me sound like the OP is a single parent. Perhaps I am mistaken, but either way, male or female, the OP is setting a terrible example for their child and I would hope that the poor grandmother would have tried to straighten out her own child (the OP) Sent from my iPad using Forums

Drinking and gambling, yes, but getting drunk enough that you require your mother to care for your child to facilitate the drunkenness, no. That's just plain juvenile and pathetic. Getting drunk as your child's only caregiver is, however.
Spurschick Posted August 1, 2017 #75 Share Posted August 1, 2017 The only way I figure this might happened is they sailing on a sister line of RC and they established their casino record there. That record is transferable within the "RC Family" of lines. Something like booking a Celebrity Cruise while onboard a RC one. I know they were looking at an interchangeable program between the casino programs of Celebrity and RC but that was not in place the last time I checked (and I check often as want to book X). The OP doesn't make any comparisons to Celebrity which would only leave getting it comped through M Life. ( sorry just caught up to post 32!!!)
