Disappointed with RCL/Allure.

Recommended Posts

I'd best clarify....by odds I mean, the best "chance" of a player winning/coming out ahead/beating the casino!

Not to be confused with pass line odds/inside odds on roulette etc...

Yes, I thought Craps had the best odds of beating the casino

I would have just asked for the sofa bed to be made up, without explanation. Do they need to know why you want it made up? It's a sofa bed - obviously it's not unusual for it to occasionally be a bed.

I guess it is debatable, I'm assuming you are talking pass line with odds etc...but in order to make an odds bet you have to first establish a point, yada yada yada...

Baccarat is as close as you can get to 50/50 chance while making one bet, how about we just go with that ;) Also, its a game of pure luck, ZERO strategy!

Cheers!

I thought blackjack played "correctly" had the best odds.

In my experience, It's a rarity, not the norm, when all players at a table play "by the book", for example do you hit your 2 against a dealer 2-3? Most people don't even know that they are supposed to ;)

Because it's not a sofa bed, just a sofa.

Right, that's why I said played correctly. If everyone is playing "by the book" that's where you have the best odds, at least that's what I thought.

some like to play their own hand and others at table get upset, hence I seldom play BJ.

I play "by the book", but some of the best shoes I've had are when people are doing whatever they feel like (not by the book)...That's why I simply go with the flow, I only play basic strategy for my own sanity and take the decision making process out of the equation ;)

If someone is playing their "own hand" in a way that's skewing the odds for everyone at the table I completely understand getting upset. They should play when no one else is at the table if they want to give the casino better odds because sure it's your money and your hand but one person playing recklessly affects everyone.

FWIW, BJ threads have the potential to be uglier than status, dress code, and even smoking threads. ;)

But a casino marketing manager confirmed that even gamblers who give the casino a profit of $200,000 p.a. don't get a free Cruise. It's got to be much more

I've been comped 2 cruises from several casinos on the east coast and passed on several more due to work. I lose less than 10K a year playing. It definitely goes by time playing. I usually play 7 -8 hours straight when I go.

I stopped playing too; had enough of hearing other people chime in that I wasn't playing "for them". Funny, didn't notice too many other people playing "for me" but never had anything to say about it. I'm playing against the dealer.

heck the casino finally called a host to to greet me when they saw me play. Gave some special sticker on my card that says VIP.. took two days. Other cruise lines greeted me when I boarded. It s the little things.

I hadn't been on a Carnival cruise for several years and on the first night in the casino the host came over and welcomed me back and gave me the free drink card. It absolutely blew me away. By the way my wife and I lost only $1400 that cruise.

Just wondering, has anyone grown his wealth by gambling in a casino, just like legendary investors Warren Buffett and Robert Kiyosaki have grown their wealth in the stock market and real estate?

My wife won $50,000 on Power Ball last month. That grew our net worth.:D

It might be "only" to you but $1,400 isn't an insubstantial amount. I mean think about it, there are tons of cruises that two people can go on for under $1,400 total, and they're eating food, taking up space and using resources. Your $1,400 went to the cruise line as pure profit. Giving you free alcohol is a tiny expense and actually statistically probably makes you likely to spend more.

Doesn't really matter how much you actually loose, (well that's not entirely true either, but that's a whole other kettle of fish)...

Your comps are based off of THEO. In Vegas a casino will either comp you based on your actual loss (usually 10% of it) or theoretical loss (Usually 30% ish), however cruise ships are much tighter!

Theo vs Actual: Lets say I put a $100 bill in a $100 slot machine that has a payout avg of 85%. I take one spin and loose. My Theoretical loss is only $15 (cause over time the machine pays back 85%). Your actual loss is $100, well, cause you lost the $100.

Since your theoretical loss is only $15 and casinos (in Vegas) comp you somewhere in the neighborhood of 30% of theo you would have $4.50 in comps. Based on 10% of actual, you would have $10 in comps. Usually Casino's will comp you the higher of the 2, so in this case $10.

Just as an FYI, most casinos don't even consider actual until its over 5k or 10k in a trip (I think the host on the Navigator told me 6k was when they START to look at actual.

Anyway, this is just a little insight how casino's in Vegas comp, cruise ship also comp loosely based on this type of system (hence when you earn 250 points on your seapass you get a free t-shirt) ;)

Hope this helps contribute to the thread!

I'm not single and yes to the drinking and gambling. It's my vice. Hard to pass up a good scotch. Which RCL does have Oban 14 that I've been drinking.

I've been gifted 5 cruises through Ceasars and only went on 4 of them. RCL was gifted to me by Peppermill. My Vegas days are few ever since my 5 year old. I've been playing closer to home.

As for my suite, I do have access to California Kitchen but my family does not. I don't book anything and don't deal with RCL, It's all done through my host who takes care of everything. I just say yes or no. After all of these questions about my suite I looked on their site and not 100% sure.

I have a deep green seapass card. While others in the other rooms I booked have light blue cards. The card says sea class and has royal suite in light blue on the left side.

I'm just happy my room is big with a walk in closet compared to the large balcony rooms I booked.

I rather have my mother watch my son while I'm out doing late night cruise things which may include alcohol. If it does include alcohol and I'm tipsy it's nice to have one of my best and trusted friends watch my most precious thing in the world.

I will chime in in support of you. I think you are (justifiably) used to being treated very well by hospitality folks, whose efforts you do appreciate. Your cabin steward was having a bad day on the first day of the cruise, and didn't treat you as you would expect. It ticked you off. Of course it did! Having your mom watch your child sounds very reasonable to me, and why would you not have a few drinks in the evening - it's not like you're driving the ship! Enjoy your cruise and ignore the message board moralists.

You are playing against the dealer. Someone else at the table who does not play the optimal strategy, is just as likely to hurt you or help you. It's just that you remember the "player" who hits a 14 when the dealer has a 6, pulls a 10 to go over, then the dealer pulls a 4 to his 16. You wouldn't complain if he got a 7, and then the dealer went over.

Wrong!!! No matter what other's do at the table, they could just as easily cause you to win rather than lose.

I get it, but the purist don't like playing with others who use the Casino as good entertainment. I will say, some of the best entertainment I have had in the Casino is watching the serious players with a newbie at the table. LOL
