Rare Essiesmom Posted August 7, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2017 There is a board here for OZ/NZ cruisers, and I think if you ask there, you will get a idea of how they observe formal night Downunder. EM
icat2000 Posted August 7, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2017 Yes there are formal nights. However, I have found the cruises operating out of Australia are not so formally dressed as other Princess cruises in other regions
Aus Traveller Posted August 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2017 There would probably be two formal nights. My estimation is that maybe a quarter of the men wear dinner suits, maybe around half wear business suits and most of the balance wear long sleeved shirts probably with a tie. Some wear whatever. The women dress in everything from evening pants with fancy top to evening dresses. The percentages in each group vary depending on the age group on board and the itinerary. So the answer is - wear what you feel comfortable in and what will fit in your luggage.:)
joybook Posted August 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 7, 2017 Formal nights on Australian cruises are no different to formal nights anywhere else in the world. Some dress up some don't. We usually do.

HuStLaZ Posted August 8, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 8, 2017 Where can you find out about formal nights on a specific cruise? Do you only find out when you board or can you find out prior?
Aus Traveller Posted August 8, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 8, 2017 Where can you find out about formal nights on a specific cruise? Do you only find out when you board or can you find out prior? On most cruises it is the second night at sea and also the second-last night, but not if these are port days. On longer cruises there are usually one or more formal nights during the cruise. If the cruise is divided into segments, the formal nights will be on the second night and second-last night.

Plus on smart casual nights most women tend to dress up a little as well, usually with dressy tops paired with pants/skirt/dark jeans, but the men tend to be more casual - chinos or dark jeans with a short sleeve shirt or polo shirt. keithm Posted August 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 8, 2017 Are there any formal nights on a 10 night Australia cruise and if so how much do people dress up? Check YouTube videos for your location. That should give you some idea how pax dress. This also gives pax the idea in all regions of their cruises. If you're cruising the Caribbean..Check YouTube for your ship in that region. Do type in formal nights, otherwise you might be seeing all the Smart casual nights.
