Looks like the price of gas went up a nickel from yesterday's cam shot?

Central Florida news reports started to say a couple days ago that we would see probably a $.25 a gallon increase as a result of the storm.

Don't know how true the numbers are .... a few minutes ago the Weather Channel said there are 20,000 ship passengers affected by the storm.

Probably if you add the people on board right now and the people that will be affected for their cruises in the next seven days that would be an accurate number.

Funny/not funny. I just logged into my Carnival account to check on FFTF status for a future cruise. Noticed I had a Casino Offer which I thought odd since they expired two days ago. Also thought the amount was odd. Pulled it up and it has ONE date and ONE sailing on it. The August 27, 2017 Breeze out of Galveston.

I got a good laugh out of that! And no, in case you were wondering, the price was not good.

First - sorry to all of you who's plans for this weak are now trashed.

The stories I'm interested in is the people out on the ships, either doing circles in the Gulf or stopping up in NOLA to grab fuel and beer. I read that the ones in NOLA have the option to get off and find a way home - I'm from Chicago area so I'm guessing with work, I wouldn't have a good excuse as to why I got back on to extend my vacation - but I sure would want to - couple extra days, and sea days at that - it's gotta be a good time for some of the people - sure the "theres no table cloths" people are gonna moan and carry on - how about the ones who like to roll with it and understand that some things just happen and make the best of it.

And those of you now finding something else to do this week - what are you gonna do to fill the now - unplanned - itinerary?

We took our cruise credit from Carnival and rolled it over to a Feb. sailing. My husband with his work rotation can't get another full 7 days off until then. Instead of leaving on the Freedom today, we are headed to Vegas tomorrow. Only hard part was resetting my countdown clock... from hours to 162 day is ROUGH!!!

Storm surge numbers on Cruise Critic have ranged from 7' to the now 30' and that's at the very least amusing. Inland rainfall floods are a problem, and some low lying areas have high water now. Rain in remarkable amounts won't innundate Galveston, it's wind pushed water. I've seen Carla, Alecia, Ike and Allison and what got low lying areas was wind pushed water. Look at the damage so far, it's wind related. Homes five miles from mine were devastated by wave action during Ike and we had minor damage and no flooding. Micro burst wind took fences and trees and broke some windows.

Harborside Drive will flood after a 2" rainfall in a brief time and be down in an hour. The Seawall has never flooded since it was constructed. Homes and businesses along there and three streets back didn't have flooding damage after Ike.

Galveston Island is accessible, Broadway is open down to 21st and the terminals area roads are clear as of now. The next 24 hours will tell, I'd expect Houston area roads to be flooded if the rain bands intensify.

.

How refreshing. Someone who lives in Galveston posting real-time information and sharing past experiences.

I'm beginning to believe we'll (Liberty) be able to dock tomorrow and the Captain just gave an update affirming that.

As someone in Galveston what do you think will happen to us then? My car's in the PoG indoor garage so its safe. How will I be able to get off the island and back to Louisiana? The ferry and bypassing Houston is probably off the table. Will be getting to I-10 via Houston be possible? I know I'm asking you to guess but your guesses are going to a lot more grounded than most.

Interesting how some here who have no skin in the game are more alarmed and sensationalistic than someone like @BallFour4 who actually lives in Galveston.

@BallFour4, there are a lot of us on the four ships trying to get to Galveston that are looking for practical information. If you could post periodic updates it would be greatly appreciated.
