kaangel Posted August 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2017 We will be going on the Escape 5/2018. My DD will be 9 1/2 and DS 10 1/2. I see the age cut off is 6-9 yo and 10-12. I know my daughter will not want to do programs without her big brother. What are the odds she can do the 10-12 program?
ColinIllinois Posted August 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2017 I don't have kids that young anymore so I don't have first hand experience but I have read here MANY times that NCL is not flexible at all on age restrictions.
mjkacmom Posted August 22, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Zero.
CiaCut Posted August 22, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 22, 2017 No flexibility at all. On our last cruise, 2 of my 3 girls were within a month of the next age group, and they were unable to switch. She should be fine though, as anyone 3-12 seems to do most things together.
ray98 Posted August 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Yup....none. They are divided for good reason.
Rare Peachypooh Posted August 22, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2017 We had a similar situation with our granddaughters. My youngest was within a month of qualifying to be with her sister and they would not let her into the program for the older children. This was the Gem last week. pieshops Posted August 22, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2017 zero, only exception is if their birthday is during the cruise and it bumps them up to the next level
garycarla Posted August 22, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2017 ZERO. And you want to know why? (no actual facts to back this up of course). One day, some 9.5 year old was in the 10+ group. And a 11 year old smacked the 9.5 year old. The resulting lawsuit by parents that always want to blame somebody else meant NCL lost the case because they allowed the age difference. You can change the ages, old/younger, etc., but the same result happens. They are covering their you know what. Just life these days.

Desertdoer Posted August 22, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Might be a great experience for your daughter. The time comes when you can always be together. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Forums mobile app
NCLfamily Posted August 22, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 22, 2017 As above, no chance. There are times when different age groups come together for games etc. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Tiggertastic Posted August 22, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Sorry the staff are trained to deal with an age range and the indemnity insurance also - there is no wriggle room Sent from my iPad using Forums

outtabux Posted August 22, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2017 We sailed with a large group on the Escape with 6, 13 year old boys and 1, 12 year old boy. They would not let that one 12 year old boy into the teen club even though his birthday was less then 30 days away.

triptolemus Posted August 22, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 22, 2017 They will not put them in the same group. You mean just like the previous dozen or so posters indicated?
Kelslinky Posted August 22, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Last year on the inspiration they let my 6yo move down to the 5yo group where others in our group were. They did say that if it got to be a problem they may move him back but it never came up. Isn't 10yo when they are allowed to sign themselves in and out? I can see moving kids down but not up. cb at sea Posted August 23, 2017 #19 Share Posted August 23, 2017 They MAY allow your DS to move down. Not likely to let the younger one move up. The club's activities are really spot on for the age groups. Good time to let everyone "fly" on their own....it's only for a few hours! In school, they are separate....they'll be fine. Mom2B&Z Posted August 23, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 23, 2017 The other option is to see if they are combining the two groups at free play time. Just check with staff to ensure the free play is happening as scheduled, as I've dropped my boys off so they could play together and gotten some angry comments when the schedule was changed.
