sandancer Posted August 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Does anyone know if Celebrity loads the 3 Elite drinks coupons onto the Seapass in the way that RCCL has now adopted. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
2theship Posted August 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Unless there are a large number of Elites on board, Celebrity sticks with the happy hour in the Sky Lounge or similar space. Even if they offer the coupons, you can still attend the Elite happy hour where you'll have some passed appetizers and a chance to chat with other frequent cruisers. Rare cruisestitch Posted August 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2017 There have been reports that they intend to load them onto the cards but AFAIK this has not happened yet. The model most commonly seen, on perhaps as many as 95% of Celebrity cruises is to have the two-hour cocktail party with unlimited drinks in the Sky Lounge. When the numbers exceed the capacity of the lounge, you receive paper vouchers, three per person per night, to redeem at various bars around the ship during the same time frame. There is a specific menu of drinks served whether in the Sky Lounge or via the vouchers.
sandancer Posted August 26, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted August 26, 2017 We are on a TA. I'm pretty sure it will be the coupons but I wondered if it would be the paper type or loaded on the seapass. Our last cruise was with Royal and there were no paper coupons. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

sandancer Posted August 26, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Thanks all for the replies. I never manage 3 drinks before dinner so always end up with coupons left over. Usually give them to the waitstaff anyway as I was told they benefit in some way. If they are loaded on the seapass I couldn't do that. Just order 3 drinks. You don't have to drink them. Or just tell them to charge you for the 3 drinks. Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌞
Banjo Posted August 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 27, 2017 I never had them on my sea pass card. Always got a sheet of dated coupons on the bed when checking into the cabin. Each night you would separate them and go to the bars they accepted them. The 3 we frequented were the Ensemble Bar, Sky Lounge and Sunset. Beanb41 Posted August 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 27, 2017 If one has coupons one can take drinks to dinner but one cant from the lounge. As over 80% of passengers now have a drinks package of some form this benefit is becoming redundant
2theship Posted August 27, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 27, 2017 We are on a TA. I'm pretty sure it will be the coupons but I wondered if it would be the paper type or loaded on the seapass. Our last cruise was with Royal and there were no paper coupons. On the Mardi Gras cruise last February, most of the ship was Elite and we had coupons for happy hour drinks but everything else was on the card. Since you're on a transatlantic, there will be far fewer drink packages because people have to pay for them so odds are very good that you'll have drink coupons. You can have a before dinner drink then get a glass of wine to take into dinner. You can also get an unopened can of soda or beer to take back to your cabin and stash in the fridge for the next day. This benefit is very much enjoyed by many.

I would also say that's a little high. If you take a trans-Atlantic (not offered) the figure is a lot lower. Been on 4 and the bars are like ghost towns. Also, you get a older crowd & high number of elites and higher, they simply wait for the happy hours that pack the selected bars.

Since I am a solo traveler, and solo rates (at least the ones I have found) do not come with "free" drinks package attached, and I don't drink enough to make paying extra for it worthwhile...the elite happy hour perk is something I really appreciate. I prefer the coupons rather than the Sky Lounge event, so that I can get a water or a soda to bring back to my room for later, and sometimes a glass of wine to take to dinner. 3 alcoholic drinks in the course of 2 hours is WAY too much for me! :)

Rare cruisestitch Posted August 27, 2017 #18 Share Posted August 27, 2017 Yes you can, although they are personalized. Your name is on the drink voucher.

It's was from a newsletter I read from Celebrity when promoting the changes from 123 Go promotion to Go better Go big Go best. The actual figure was 87%. TA and Trans Pacific cruises are normally the only repositioning cruises not having a drinks package as a perk. That said drinks packages were included for a short time a couple of months ago. The numbers of those with drinks packages is reflected in Lower numbers at Elite functions on non repositioning cruises. We rarely travel without a "perks" drink package thus the Elite happy hour is not a priority for us especially on port extensive cruises
Ladesign Posted August 28, 2017 #21 Share Posted August 28, 2017 Other than a panama canal trip we have always been "given" drinks packages on recent boat trips. I always give all the vouchers to a bar person the first night as I cannot be bothered separating them out each day - I am on holiday I attended the 'elite' sky lounge pre drinks packages. Whilst I quite enjoyed teasing some of the cruise snobs at these events I admit it was just the free drinks that lured me in . On a premium package next month so no need to go to sky lounge 'elite' event Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare cruisestitch Posted August 28, 2017 #23 Share Posted August 28, 2017 Bar servers have told us otherwise -- they have said that there are gratuities paid out for each coupon.
merlin5353 Posted August 28, 2017 #24 Share Posted August 28, 2017 Over the last 2 years (7 cruises), they have NOT given us coupons. ; including 3 TAs. The waitstaff gets a gratuity every time they turn in a coupon. It's shared, but it's a good idea to daily give your extras to a waitstaff member.
