I already prepaid gratuities. But its been a few years since my last cruise. How much does every one tip for the extras. Like room services, drinks, bags....

LOL...you will get so many different opinions on this subject as it has been debated and mentioned dozens of times here, it's like cheers, been discussed to no end..search for this subject here on this forum and just start reading....you will get everything you need and then some!!!!

Room Service - a dollar or two.

Drinks - none, all ready included in price.

Bags - $2 per bag

Wait staff in MDR - $20 per staff member (up to 3) above auto tips

Room Steward - $40 extra left on night stand above auto tips

Casino - I will tip after play of about 2% of my winnings to the Craps table staff, usually the extra few chips like the $5 & $1 chips

tips are for services rendered, I would not blanket it the way Hawk did. So if the room steward was MIA or not up to standards would you still leave $40 on the night stand? We tip bar servers around the pool, as you will definitely see him more often. We find a bartender who knows our names and what we drink we will cash tip them as well. We like YTD and if we find a service team we like and stay with them, we will tip them as well. We would not tip the busser or assistant as much as the head server. We are a little more generous with the porters.

$1-2 per bag is standard for porters and bellhops.

Room service, $1-5 depending on how much you order.

 

Drinks have 18% added to the cost (or to the package, if you go that route)...Unless I frequent on particular bar/bartender for a long period, I feel 18% is more than ample for opening a beer or pouring a simple drink! Especially, with the prices they charge! At land bars, where they charge reasonable prices, I tip $1 per order (whether it's for 1 beer or 3 at one time).

 

For the staff that's included in the tips they add daily, if the service is so wonderful, I can't believe it, then extra is in order....the level of service (and your pocketbook) will dictate HOW much extra you should give. They appreciate anything.

I don't think the ship bar prices are any different than any decent bar or restaurant in the states. Ten bucks for a top shelf drink is normal, much more in big city hotels.

We typically do $1 per bag for the porters, but that's about it. We typically don't request the same server in the MDR so the servers change since we don't request the same one. Prepaid gratuity pays them. If we have an exceptional steward we'll give them $20 at the end. Nothing extra on the drinks either.

Big city prices are high for smaller areas. I feel their drink prices are high. Just got home from vacation in Denver. Drink prices are 20% higher on the ships.

Room steward if they did a good job, $15 to $20 for a short cruise, $40 for a long one

Normally do not have the same wait staff every night...

For a long cruise if I have a favorite bar tender $40ish

I didn't saying gave tips without getting service. I also have never had a bad room steward in 19 cruises that I can remember. So therefore, the extra $40 was deserved.

And as far as drinks, I have found the ships prices are slightly higher than I pay at home. And with the tips on drinks already added, I find it sufficient.

If the tip is prepaid or included I include nothing more unless they go above and beyond.

 

I usually give the porter $2 per bag and the waiter $2 or $3 if we order room service.

We like martinis once in awhile a Belvedere martini is $9.95, don't think you could find it any cheaper in a decent restaurant or hotel bar. They also give us one hell of a pour, might be the extra tip

We already pay tips, so anything extra, is for a person that goes above and beyond. Getting ice is not above and beyond. It's their job. I personally find most just do their job, and are efficient at it. Every once in awhile, there is that one person that goes the extra mile.

As you can see, there is a lot of variability in the advice you will receive for this. Use your best judgment and reward those who serve you for a job well done. Since you have prepaid grats, you are covered for most services on the ship. Those that would be excluded from that are porters, kids club workers, room service waiters, spa workers.

I had the same thought when I read that post. "I have no idea, but I think those longshoreman might make more than me, so I don't tip them a penny"

We give $2 per bag but we now watch to make sure they are put on a dolly. I went with a group of 30 people and 1/2 of them arrived about 15 min earlier than my group did and when I got there, their bags were still sitting on the sidewalk. I paid my porter for our group's bags and he put them on the dolly. I asked him why the other bags were sitting on the sidewalk and he took a minute to watch the porter working the area. The (bad) porter unloaded another vehicle, took their tip, put the bags on the sidewalk, watched the cruisers leave to get on the ship and then he left their bags on the sidewalk too and went to unload another vehicle. My porter was livid and talked to this guy about scamming tips and leaving the bags. They almost got into a fist fight with a bit of shoving and loud talking until a security guard came along.

Drinks as someone else said nothing because they already get 18% - I had to keep reminding my husband to stop adding extra because they already get tipped

 

For my room it depends on if i feel like they went out of their way - I did not tip anything additional this past trip because I don't feel like he went out of his way to do anything extra for us and he was not seen very often so I felt the regular tips were perfectly fine

 

We give a few dollars each night plus buy the piano bar guy a drink or two every night of what ever he drinks

 

For MDR we had 3 guys we gave 2 of them $20 each but the 3rd we did not do anything for because he did not try at all to talk to us and the only thing he ever did was brought us bread when we sat down everything else was done by the other 2
