Princess Cays

Ragged Island, Bimini, Freeport and Grand Bahama had damage.

HEALTH and safety conditions on storm-stricken Ragged Island will only continue to deteriorate, Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis said yesterday as he urged the 18 remaining residents on the island to evacuate in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, which has reduced most structures there to piles of rubble and rendered the island unlivable.

BIMINI residents were relieved yesterday to start the laborious, but bittersweet process of restoration with no casualties or injuries after hundreds were unable to evacuate before the devastation from the passage of Hurricane Irma.

I believe Princess Cay (Eleuthera Island) fared well during the storm.

They are waiting to see what hurricane Jose will do.

Irma turned west much to the dismay of people on the FL west coast thereby missing the Bahamas. I would not expect much damage to Princess Cay.

This was posted on Monday by the Islands of the Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas – Monday, September 11, 2017: The Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau is open and international flights are beginning to return to The Bahamas. Additionally, the Port of Nassau is open and cruise ships are expected to arrive on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Hotels and resorts including Atlantis, Paradise Island, Sandals Royal Bahamian, Warwick Paradise Island, Baha Mar, Melia Nassau Beach Resort and the Sandals Emerald Bay on Great Exuma are set to welcome guests.

There are currently no reports of severe damage to the tourism product throughout the islands, and The Bahamas and all are grateful for this good fortune. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were not as fortunate and we will seek to assist as we can.

Nassau and Paradise Island were not impacted by Hurricane Irma and across the island people have returned to work at hotels, airports, the port and attractions after cosmetic clean-up. Assessments across the islands will begin today and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation will continue to share updates as available.

Larry from what we have heard it was not severely damaged - I have not heard of anything from my sources.

Of all of the ports scheduled for our 14 day January cruise, Princess Cay is the least of our concerns. The Cay has little to no real infrastructure to repair. I have also read that the island sustained only minor damage. In as much as Princess cancelled our favorite Island (Curacao) due to scheduling issues and the others are old favorites and familiar, we are looking forward to being away for a bit during the traditionally cold weather here. We will take whatever the good folks in the northern islands can get together for us.

A few years ago (perhaps more than a few?) we went down to Puerto Vallarta about a week after a hurricane. While the Malecon was in shambles and the shop owners were struggling to re-open, we felt very welcomed and appreciated for the couple of weeks we were there. We, likewise, appreciated the restaurants and shops for their ability to get back in operation so quickly.

From Princess' website:

Updated as of 9/14/17, 8:45pm PDT

Princess Cruises can announce that none of its cruises to the Caribbean or Panama Canal will be cancelled as a result of Hurricane Irma. Furthermore, our private island resort at Princess Cays is ready to receive guests and all of our 7-day cruises to the Western Caribbean and all cruises to the Panama Canal are unaffected by Irma and will go ahead as planned at this time.

While the cruises won't be cancelled it doesn't say the Eastern itineraries will absolutely not be changed.

Glad to hear Princess Cays wasn't badly damaged and will be ready! :)
