Passenger Demographics for Itinerary/Ships

Recommended Posts

Well that's thrilling to hear!! We won't even be out of the MDR by 9 pm, so you are saying we will have the ship to ourselves? Did sister ship Serenade last Thanksgiving and it wasn't that way at all.

That has never been our experience out of Tampa, on Rhapsody or Brilliance. There was always something to do until very late.

So glad you compared my cruise with your totally different cruise:')

All I was trying to state in my original post was Brilliance had a lot more older folks then I expected and the shows were not full. Thats all. It was only my opinion I was given. And your post is very sarcastic.

The Fall foliage cruise we took in September had an older crowd, likely due to the time of the year and possibly due to the itinerary. We also did the S. Caribbean in early May which skewed older. Not sure if it was that particular sailing, but it did seem to be right between Spring Break and summer vacation.

For what it's worth, those 2 were amongst the most pleasant, drama-free cruises we've been on. Not saying other cruises weren't fun -- the fellow passengers and crew in those 2 sailings just stand out in my memory as being particularly nice.

I just came off a New England/Canada cruise and the demographics were a much older crowd.. A lot of retired folks. A lot of canes and scooters. I am 47 years old and I would definitely say I was one of the younger cruisers. There were a few younger folks, but the majority were much older. Also, only a few kids. There are usually less kids on our Oct/Nov Caribbean cruises, but there were even less on this cruise. I could probably count on one hand how many kids I saw LOL

Bob, I assume that means it will be doing the Southern route only. Will other ships be leaving from POM to do the ABC's next year also? Will FOS be moving back to PE anytime soon??

Freedom will replace Adventure in San Juan for the forseable future. I don't know if ship will do Southern Carib cruises out of Miami, but I believe Serenade will do Southern Carib out of Ft. Lauderdale

Would there be any demographic information for the cruise ships? Trying to determine the best itinerary for our next trip. i know depending on the time of year could change things up.

Why don't you first choose the itinerary you really want and go from there. We have been on many cruises with multiple "demographics" and always had a good time. In fact we were seated in the MDR with a World War II veteran and had a wonderful time. He told us many great stories about serving in France. Don't worry so much, a cruise is what you make of it.

Choose your cruise based on your itinerary preference. Demographics will change for a number of reasons including the cruise length, time of year, and sometimes the ship size.

When we first began cruising, we had been told by an experienced TA that we would not be happy with Princess or Holland America because they were both cruise lines for "floating nursing homes." We ignored him and booked the cruises we wanted because they offered us what we wanted in a cruise.

As it turned out, he was wrong and we were very happy with our choices. We had great experiences! My wife took hundreds of pictures and posted them on her website (see links below).

We have seen a good representation of different age categories and extended families on our cruises. In fact, we have a HAL cruise booked for December, another Royal Caribbean cruise booked for next year, plus a Princess cruise and HAL cruise in the planning stages.

I agree with a previous post that says a cruise is what you make of it. Choose your itinerary and go! Cruising is a fantastic way to travel!

On the Radiance this June in Alaska, the demographics were mostly old couples with poor sphincter control.....

Suggest you don't walk behind them then. ;p

On our Radiance Alaska there were a lot of young families. They had other

control issues. :o

Just came back from our first 14 day sailing from Southampton. Two things were different from Med cruises - two thirds were Brits (only to be expected I guess but surprised there wasn't more of a mix), and there was definitely an older crowd. Lots of scooters, walking sticks - even the CD mentioned it on the opening show.

our experience......., we usually cruise in late October, early November. usually not a whole lot of kids, cause I hate taking someone else's vacation with screaming kids or babys. no offense. Usually Princess or RCI, 2 Carnival, and one NCL.

Carnival cruise near Halloween, out of Miami lots of kids and older people, probably because less expensive

Allure Cruise out of Ft Lauderdale, middle age people, probably because it was a more expensive cruise

Freedom cruise out of Port Canaveral, lots of 30 somethings

NCL lots of middle age people

Regal Princess, lots of older people for some reason

Sapphire Princess Mexican Riv almost all 30 somethings

Caribbean Princess and other Western cruises, 30 and 40 soemthings, on first cruises

What would be your ideal? Tell us that and maybe we can suggest

  • 6 months later...

funny...when i saw the title of this thread i thought it was referring to issues surrounding demographics of cruises out of foreign ports.....those are the things that worry me...like cruises out of foreign ports can have line issues (people not standing in them)...

i guess i just have to put myself in the mind set and not worry about it...

by the way, i say this as someone who lives in a foreign port, so i'm not just talking out of my proverbial....americans are the kings at standing in line....everyone else? not so much....

For UK sailings, this is the pattern I tend to see ...

Young families and lots of children during school holidays.

Mainly British.

Elderly on longer cruises, off season and also cruises that are cheap for one reason or another.

On Med sailings from Barcelona, large number of Europeans especially Spanish. Seem to have more smokers. Mixed age groups ranging from young families with children to elderly.

I tend to see a growing number from Chinese descent. Great opportunity to try meals in WJ aimed at this group.

This is all conjecture based on own observations.

We’re booked on Explorer out of Miami December 2019. 9-Night Southern Caribbean.
