The shower/toilet "situation" on Epic

I got the shower curtains at the dollar store (very thin plastic) and the command hooks at walmart. My "McGyver" idea of adding a little privacy to the shower/WC area is about to be tested. (tomorrow). Stay tuned. ;)

Looking forward to your shower curtain / command hook test. :)

Perhaps the better solution to the "problem" is to pick a cabin mate who won't be trying to look at you through the glass while you use the shower or toilet.

If you can't trust someone not to look, how do you trust them not to pick up the jury-rigged shower curtain and peek behind that?

Given that there is a solid, cloth privacy curtain floor to ceiling between the room and the shower, I am not sure what all this McGyver stuff is going to buy you. Pull the curtain closed if you don't want people peeking.

I guess that you could somehow put the command hooks on the ceiling and hang the curtain down, if the ceiling material will accept the adhesive. The doors on the shower and toilet are floor to ceiling and slide. There is nowhere to attach to a door frame.

I think a lot of cruisers need to get a life. People worried about someone seeing their shadow - really. I guess these people must be mortified going through body scanners at airport security. The Epic is a great ship with great staff, entertainment and food. Is the washroom set up a little quirky- yes, but that's what makes travelling fun. If you don't like to experience different things, stay home, you'll be much more comfortable.

Or, cruise any ship in the NCL fleet except the Epic. It is the only one with this weird setup.

That is incorrect...just look at any Penthouse suite on the Star, Dawn, Jewel, Jade, Pearl or Gem.

Their main bathroom is separated from the main sleeping area by a cloth curtain.

Their toilet is in its own room with a glass door.

Their shower is in its own room with a glass door.

You have to leave either the shower or toilet room to find the sink on the opposite wall.

With the curtain open, a person sitting on the bed can watch everything happening in the bathroom.

This is NO comparison at all. The photo you share is a 2 bedroom cabin with 2 bathrooms and one of them being the master suite with its own bathroom. The second bedroom and bath have a solid privacy door. I loved this cabin on the Jade. The Epic has a totally separate idea of privacy and a translucent toilet door is icky. I had a great cruise on the Epic, the entertainment was great. The smoke from the Casino horrible as it wafted throughout the Atrium and up to O' Sheehans. The air purifiers did help a little but not enough.

There certainly IS a comparison (look up the meaning of the word...you can "compare" a rock to an airplane...a comparison does not require equality or even similarity). I've noted just FIVE things found in both. All of which are 100% true and observable from the provided pic. This very topic has been discussed before on these boards (you can do a search to bring yourself up to speed). FWIW...you also seemed to miss the very important word "main" (which was used TWICE) in your hurry to argue.

And you are right...the toilet door on the Epic is translucent. On the Dawn & Jewel class ships these doors are clear glass with translucent strips.

Having stayed in that cabin on the Jade, and an Epic balcony, I can tell you for certain they are very, very different. No comparison at all. What a silly argument.

I do not have a problem with the shower set up really. Not been able to wash hands within the toilet area is not so good though;p

I agree, I don't get what the big deal is. You can't see through the enclosure, just shadows, and not clear shadows. Also, it allows one person to shower while another uses the toilet. Pretty efficient when multiple people are sharing a room. Plus, the majority of the time people travel with family members or close friends. All of which have usually viewed each other in various degrees of undressing. How did everyone get through high school gym class or college dorm life or go to modern day gyms with these phobias? And yes, suites have clear glass with just a curtain, with multiple entries. In our suite last March, I had to remember to tell my daughter's boyfriend to stay clear of the entire half of the suite. I didn't really care if anyone walked by the one with the opaque glass last week. I should have taken pictures to show how much you cannot see through the glass. I absolutely love the Epic. I just booked two future cruises on the breakaway and getaway, but am a little depressed since I feel like I will miss the Epic onboard these others. One area that I do agree, it was a little odd having to leave the enclosure to wash my hands. But the sink was literally 2 steps away.

Everyone's privacy standards are different. A young teen just entering puberty might be shy and embarrassed. I'm surprised it is so shocking that people would want to know about it, and that some people insist on telling people its "no big deal". It could be a very big deal for some people, and it's their right to choose another ship (like any in the NCL fleet) for their inside, ocean view, or balcony cabin. Here's a pic of the bathroom ... provide your own sound effects ....

Love the sound effect comment! That is 100% our family's humor. Plus we had the bottle of mandatory use "poo-pourri" in the toilet area as well. All part of vacationing together in tight quarters. And I agree, there are other options, but to us it doesn't outweigh all the positives of the Epic. But that is just us. Everyone has different priorities. Which is why I am glad NCL has so many options.
