champagne lover Posted November 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2017 We are wondering about a cruise on Carnival, have never sailed with them before, what is their policy on taking wine and spirits onboard? If it isn't allowed then we certainly won't take it but know we have been able to do on Princess before.

easyboy Posted November 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 23, 2017 It is allowed if consumed in the stateroom. $15 corkage fee is charged if consumed in MDR or bar. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Our experience with the Corkage Fee has been sometimes they charge it and sometimes they don't.
coevan Posted November 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 23, 2017 OP, Princess does not allow liquor to be brought aboard, except wine. If you open your wine in your cabin and bring it to the MDR, there is no corkage fee.
CA_Cruzing Posted November 24, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 24, 2017 Our experience with the Corkage Fee has been sometimes they charge it and sometimes they don't. if your bottle is already opened and you bring it to the MDR, you most likely won't be charged corkage. BYO corkscrew when you pack. we just sailed Vista for 8 days and enjoyed multiple bottles, corkage-free. OP, if you're travelling with your wine/champs, we use Wine Wings bags which we bought on Amazon. perfect solution for airplanes and carrying on bottles onto a cruise. They don't charge the corkage fee to actually "open" the bottle of wine. It's changed to be able to bring and drink your bottle with dinner. We have been charged the corkage even when the bottle is open so now we just pour our glasses of wine for dinner in the cabin and take them to the dining room. MLJS Posted November 30, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 30, 2017 We always bring a glass of wine with us to dinner. Ask a bartender for wine glasses and they always provide them. Have never been charged a corkage fee
NavarreCruiser Posted December 1, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 1, 2017 All the above is true, but the bottle(s) must be 750 ml. Although I have heard there are times when they let a couple bring on a 1.5-liter bottle, but that is not guaranteed.

courtlynndear Posted December 3, 2017 #13 Share Posted December 3, 2017 1 bottle of wine or champ per adult (750 ml each). They will check the size when you board so make sure it's not above that. Also, I brought my own wine cork on my carry on and there were no issues.
muffin Posted December 3, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 3, 2017 Related question. Going back about 4 years to our last carnival cruise. One day In the lido area, at lunchtime I think, a waiter was selling bottles of wine, house variety, for , I believe $20 per bottle. We asked if this was a social for today only. He said no, we could get them anytime. We bought a few over a 14 day cruise and used them in our cabin, or when taking a drink to the show or such. Is this still happening? It was very convenient and not bad wine. Thx for your replies

When purchasing the wine packages, you do not get to take the bottles with you, they are delivered to your table on demand to be consumed there. Thx for your replies Hi Here is a link to Carnival site regarding the cruise the vineyards program. https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1358/kw/cruise%20the%20vineyards%20prices It says you can drink your wine in the dining room and stateroom only, while giving you any bottles you didn't consume to take home with you. If they are giving you a bottle to drink in your stateroom, I don't see them stopping you from drinking it anywhere on the ship. hope this helps

CA_Cruzing Posted December 3, 2017 #20 Share Posted December 3, 2017 the corkage fee is a small price for the service. Corkage is a tax “because you didn’t buy our bottle in our restaurant.” If you’re going to byo wine, at least bring a great bottle because $15 corkage on a $15 retail wine is a waste of good money. Anyislandwilldo Posted December 3, 2017 #21 Share Posted December 3, 2017 Just off the Victory and I had my wine in my back pack to go through the scanner and no one asked me to open my backpack to check inside. Fine with me.
QTPieRye Posted December 4, 2017 #22 Share Posted December 4, 2017 I learned something else recently that I found interesting.... did a wine tour in Ensenada and bought 8 bottles of wine. When my friend and I arrived back on the ship, they allowed us to carry 1 bottle per person back to the cabin and check the other 6 at the alcohol table. On a port intensive itinerary, you could enjoy a popular wine from that port each night with dinner :)

QTPieRye Posted December 5, 2017 #24 Share Posted December 5, 2017 I must be really lucky then because I've had it happen 2 times personally in the last 4 months and so did a lot of the other people that did the wine tour with us! Believe me, I was shockingly surprised too!
