repeater Posted November 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2017 What books on cruising, tips, etc, can you recommend? Looking for a gift. It's that time of year!
LeeW Posted November 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2017 Both the Rick Steves cruise port and Fodors guides aren't bad, but these tend to be for a specific region. We got copies from local thrift shop. Cruise Critic has better info, but I can understand why you are asking. For Panama Canal, the McCullough book is well worth having, as is the Alaska Cruise Companion. These are sold onboard and often autographed by the Captain (we take an old copy to use and get the autographed one to save). They are historical information, not current port information. Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted November 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2017 If you're looking to stretch beyond Princess, I recommend Berlitz Cruising & Cruise Ships 2018 It includes chapters on every aspect of cruising, plus a full-page review of every ocean cruise ship afloat. Rare Keith1010 Posted November 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 29, 2017 If you're looking to stretch beyond Princess, I recommend Berlitz Cruising & Cruise Ships 2018 It includes chapters on every aspect of cruising, plus a full-page review of every ocean cruise ship afloat. I second Host Jazzbeau's recommendation. This book is updated annually and I have been using it since the early 1990's. It provides a nice one to two page summary on most cruise ships. It has a lot of great information at the beginning of the book for first time and even seasoned cruisers. I will get a new version every few years. While it is available soft copy I do prefer the hard copy version which I order from Amazon.Com The 2018 version was just released earlier this month. https://www.amazon.com/Berlitz-Cruising-Cruise-Ships-Guide/dp/1780049781/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1511935987&sr=8-2&keywords=Cruising+Douglas+Ward Keith

rccampbell Posted November 29, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 29, 2017 We loved " Tips from a Cruise Addicts Wife". We read 2 of her books and found them to be lots of fun and helpful.
rkacruiser Posted November 29, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2017 And Cruise Confidential by Brian Bruns.:) Yes, I enjoyed it! And, I believe Mr. Bruns has authored more than one dealing with a cruise theme.

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted November 30, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Our neighbours gave us this book a couple of years ago. It's fascinating. https://www.amazon.com/Cruise-Ship-Primer-History-Operations/dp/087033638X
