First Cruise Following Dry Dock... Port Everglades

Anyone been on first cruise following a dry dock? Just occurred to me that with no disembarking passengers, ship should be ready to receive new guests that much earlier and therefore boarding start earlier. Has this happened in Port Everglades?

Last time we were on a ship out of drydock I thought the same thing. Unfortunately it was much later than normal boarding because contractors were still working on the ship. Good luck

Yes, boarding is more likely to be later than earlier--lots of last minute details to attend to. A couple of times work was still being done during the cruise and some venues were not open. But hopefully everything will go smoothly for you.

We boarded the Emerald right after her big drydock in 2015, and boarding commenced at the normal time.

I wouldn’t worry about boarding so much as worrying about what might not work. We were on the Emerald in 2015 right after dry dock and there many issues with ac, toilets, no hot water etc etc.. we had a good time but there were many unhappy passengers. Just know and be prepared for possible issues.

Very likely additional shoreside contractors will board to do last minute touch-ups when the ship arrives at Port Everglades in the wee hours of the night. So expect to be waiting for them to finish rather than to be on board earlier than usual. Sorry to be bursting that bubble.

I have been on a couple. A lot of time the contractors are still working on the ship taking care of small details and will continue to work while the ship is on its first cruise. It is a gamble on whether the ship will board early, on time or late.

Thanks for the real life experiences. Now that I read them, it sounds a bit familiar as having read similar in the past on here. We are doing a BVE, so will still go early and hope for the best, but expect worse. And not worry much about it as it won't be something I can influence or change.

Definitely get there the regular early BVE time. I just boarded Royal Princess with a guest on November 25 and you need to make sure that the escort has been paged that you have arrived before the first boarding group has been called. Multiple shoreside staff kept telling us that the BVE guests checks in at the same desk I do (Wrong!) and we would be assigned the next available group number rather than the very next one to board (Double Wrong!).

We don't know everything for this dry dock, but the main reason was to install all the new beds.

Having been on 2 not so great cruises out of 66 I consider myself lucky. However one of them was the week before drydock and one after drydock. Never again. Before they were taking things apart and after they were still putting things together

And...there is always the potential for what is happening today with the Island...late coming out of drydock, it’s now leaving a day later and dropping one port. Yes, there is OBC and FCC as compensation, but there are loads of people scrambling to find last minute hotels in the FLL area. This is where insurance comes in handy, as the hotel costs are not automatically covered by Princess. Naturally, I am booked on the Crown for the week after it’s drydock, lol.
