Rare chasinraynbowz Posted December 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Let me start this by saying its my OWN DUMB FAULT... LOL. My hubby turns 60 in January and I asked him what he wanted for his birthday. Of course he said he wanted a cruise!! We already have one booked for May, so I looked to find an inexpensive one in January and I found one on the Triumph out of NOLA!! I went the cheapest route possible and took a chance and let them pick our cabin :D. (Let me stop here and tell you that I suffer from motion sickness and take a bonine daily while cruising. I usually pick a cabin in the middle of the ship.) Well, my roll of the dice did not pay off... hahaha!! They assigned us cabin 2463. This cabin is on the aft end of the ship AND is under the dining room. So, besides living on bonine for the entire trip, I have never been under a dining room. Can someone share with me what we may experience? Let the teasing begin!!! :'):'):')
siestakeys04 Posted December 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2017 I was under the galley during my cruise last year and the noise level was not bad. I was on the Valor
Rare crewsweeper Posted December 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Aft cabin under the dining room. Maybe a bit of noise during dinner. Love the porthole window and window shelf.
Hopep84 Posted December 6, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2017 I also have bad motion sickness (2 pills a day for me ;)) and we were in the aft of the ship on deck 2 (under the dining room) on our last cruise. It was perfect! My new preferred location. No noise at all. I bet you will be fine! Enjoy your cruise!!!

firemanbobswife Posted December 6, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2017 No noise from the dining room, lots of noise and vibration from the engines. That’s why I like it back there. My SIL has 2473 on Glory and she was so sick from the movement and vibration. Thankfully Seabands worked wonders for her. She went on Glory with us again and they stayed midship and I had 1452. She couldn’t stand to walk back to my cabin. As soon as she hit a certain spot in the aft of the ship she could instantly feel the difference and started getting ill. I only have to take one pill a day, unless its stormy. Hopefully it will be like sailing on glass or I may be sleeping in the casino... hahaha!!! firemanbobswife Posted December 6, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Is it a porthole (small and round) or a full window with a shelf? [emoji5] Portholes are small, round windows at the front of the ship. There aren’t any in the back. You will have a picture window that is angled inward. Portholes

Ahh, the noise and vibration will be new to us. I will warn my hubby!! I am sure he will be fine though. I don't think I am quite as bad as your SIL. I can walk back there and not have a problem. But, if I stay too long it becomes a problem if its stormy. Hopefully we will have smooth sailing or I may have to get some seabands to go with the bonine!! caribsun Posted December 6, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 6, 2017 You can call your TA or CCL and ask to be moved to a center location. If the same catergory no charge or pay for a upgrade.

Maybe yes to the upgrade probably no to switching cabins. They did a guarantee. That’s the chance you take for a cheaper rate.

bury me at sea Posted December 6, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 6, 2017 I don't think that was stupid at all. I think it was a wonderful, kind thing to do. I have had a cabin under the MDR. No noise at all. They are carpeted and when dinner is over, it's really over. Enjoy!

We did a guarantee and even if it is the same category, they will charge me about $100 more for the cabin. I am keeping my eyes on their sales and specials. I might luck out and can change without it costing too much!!

jabberjaw070596 Posted December 6, 2017 #21 Share Posted December 6, 2017 We have the Victory booked for next week. This is our 12th cruise and its our first inside cabin. PAPERBKWRITER Posted December 6, 2017 #22 Share Posted December 6, 2017 Actually, IMO you have the best spot on the ship for motion sickness. Forward you get the waves and aft you just ride thru them, if it is even turbulent. Under the dining room. Since the only time you should be affected is during the night my experience IS you could hear some banging of tables and heavy cleaning equipment a few times but chance are you'll get more noise out of your neighbors. Not even close. Midship is the best. Aft “fishtails” and definitely has much more motion than midship. Yes forward can have the up and down when really rough, but aft for sure has movement. You feel hardly anything midship, not so true for either end of the ship. The ship still goes up and down. Think of a teeter tauter. Ever been in the aft dining room when things aren’t exactly smooth? Quite a few times people in my party were getting motion sickness. You still feel it down low as well. Below the dining room you won’t hear any tables or cleaning equipment as it’s carpeted back there.

I told them I had heard midship and low was the best place. The dealer gave me a "what do you know you don't live here" kind of look and told them it was aft.
