Laurab23 Posted January 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2018 Is there a website to see where a ship is at sea? We are traveling next month and want to see if our ship is on schedule before we leave for the port. Laura

leaveitallbehind Posted January 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2018 The ships are rarely off schedule from a weekly itinerary and if they are you would likely receive an email indicating any delay or new boarding time.

Yeah, it's not like tracking an airplane to see if they're on schedule.

chengkp75 Posted January 5, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Just note that all of the vessel tracking sites rely on AIS information from the ship, which in turn relies on the ship being within range (20-40 miles) of a land based receiving station. When out of range of a land station, these sites will show an unnamed vessel as "position received by satellite", and even with their "pay for" premium service, there are only a couple of satellite updates per day for ships out of land range. Cruisemapper also uses AIS, but when the ship is out of land based range, it uses the vessel's published itinerary to show a "guesstimate" position. In many cases, this is good enough, but if a ship has a serious diversion (weather, medevac), it can place the ship in a totally incorrect location.
