RCCL new Diamond Lounge Policy?

I think most of their revenues comes from alcohol--$7.25 + grats for a Miller light/;p Does RCl break down the revenue stream in their annual report.

No most of their revenue comes from the cruise fare. Do you really know many people that spend more per person onboard than they did for their cabin? Sure some do but most don’t and many don’t come close.

Most of their profit comes from onboard spending like the beer you mention.

" Being affluent doesn't make anyone more loyal -- just more valuable (profitable). Though I do agree that Royal would court and encourage those who spend more to sail more. That's just smart business.

Even that is not as obvious as it may seem. A typical Royal Caribbean Owner's Suite takes up as much space on the ship as 3 category D "Spacious Balcony" cabins. If two people occupy each room, it is not at all clear whether the cruise line will make more profit from 2 people occupying an Owner's Suite or from 6 people occupying 3 cat. D's. The perks provided to the people in the Owner's suite cost the cruise line money and the 6 people probably provide more revenue from alcoholic beverages, specialty restaurants and casino gambling than the 2. Additionally, it seems to me that Owner's Suites usually sell out much faster than cat. D's which is another way of saying that the cruise line has to work harder to fill all the cat. D's than to fill all the Owner's Suites. The mathematics that may seem simple at first is really very complex.

Great point about the suite size equalling 3 cat D balcony cabins.

Cool! :)

I still have the Sapphire loyalty card, when P&O changed the loyalty scheme from portunis to peninsula and gave the tiers new names they didn't send new cards so now i am Atlantic member and move to Mediterranean member in 7 more cruise nights.

Are you on a ship now? If so hope you both are having a fantastic time.

In hind sight, this is how I should have worded it. I agree that there are many other variables that may come into consideration. In the context of my rebuttal, my main point was that spending more does not make you any more loyal.

This is the dumbest remark I've ever hear. Really? You must be a large stockholder. I'm done reading trash like this.
Holland America gives an extra day point for every $300 extra you spend on onboard purchases, Gratuities/service fees, excursions, spa etc. If you buy ahead of the cruise it all gets added in.

So it is not a dumb idea. You can gather a lot of day points to your loyalty account.

A suggestion of a P and D+ lounge leaving suites to their own lounge.

I personally don't want anything to change but i am only offering suggestions just like other well meaning people do.

And I agree...some may not like it...but I think that is the direction that RCI is slowly moving to. They are simply letting the overcrowding become such an issue...pax are forced out of the overcrowded lounges to other venues.

Closing the CL...adding SL ...with D+ not allowed. D/D+ now occupy one single lounge unless they are full suite. Baby boomers now retiring and cruising more...D numbers are growing fast. D lounges on some ships are becoming smaller and over flow lounges not happening on some ships...(possibly all of them?). Indeed the change is coming.

Very wise and thought out post. We actually agree.

Now that I'll agree with. But for us having to fly everywhere fun we just keep building up and using frequent flier miles.

Agree. I don't fly with United every year..and some times not for a few years, but my frequent flyer Visa card keeps dumping miles in my account and that keeps it active. ;) And makes sure no moss grows on that hot plastic card! :')

The machine in the Rhapsody CL had decaf last month.

Hi Ian! Currently sitting in the CL on Rhapsody right now. Indeed decaf is alive and well in the machine next to me as I type. :)

And I did indeed tell Alan that you said hello...he of course fondly remembers you! He said hello back at 'cha! :D

Where do you get that figure from? That is certainly a high number and in my several trips on oasis in the SL have never heard of that many. FYI for what ever reason I’ve often heard the figure that week (meeting and chatting with some of them, overheard it, etc.) and the mid to top end of your range seems a bit high and not the norm.

I’m not saying your wrong but I’m curious as to your source as it differs greatly from my experience. Maybe the cruises I was on were light on pinnacles. Who knows.

This was from the Captain during lunch last week. There were 43 pinnacles on that cruise and the figure was higher on the previous cruise.

I can definitely back up Retired Leo's accurate numbers. I simply ask the LA or either of the concierges on every cruise I am on. They also volunteer info on recent high number or lower number upper tier C&A.

Bucky loves to keep all of our sea pass cards...which has started to need a bigger box. ;) Not sure why he does it, but it is fun to go back through and see the dates, card designs, and ships we have been on.

Yes, I am currently on Rhapsody...whiling away a relaxed sea day typing away here in the CL. This boot is dictating to me how relaxed I need to be of course. :o

We did not even go to either lounge last night. Had too much fun with bottle of champagne and wine that we shared with my sister and her new husband on the balcony during sail away. Always a treat to sail under the Sunshine Skyway bridge too! :D

On our 11-26-2017 Oasis cruise there were 63 Pinnacles. On our 1-21-2018 Oasis cruise there were 57 Pinnacles.

This information was given to me by Claudine the Suite Lounge Concierge.

And Bucky and I were sitting next to you and Sandy in the SL.;) I can't remember the name of the bartender in there...foggy brain. He was sooo good! But I think he was leaving? :(

Will be good to see you both in December! :D

Good enough for me and Tnx for the reply. I would imagine however at 70 + the SL/CK would take a potentially big hit in ability to deliver exceptional service and the CK would be packed each night.

One cruise I did not too long ago there were less than 10 if I recall correctly. I met a few of them (as they had there regular spots at the bar) and they were fun to chat with. Heard lots of interesting stories.

Hi Pat and Bucky,

His name was Ecko. Great person and very intelligent. He was going home and I believe he was not returning.

CK was packed with people standing around and lined up outside to get a table. The SL appeared to be full the times that I saw it. I heard they were also allowing JS's into CK which use to be on a availability basis.

All those people in line, did they have a reservation?

Hadn't thought about that either! Great point!;)

So, on the Ovation on my last cruise we were in a sea class suite (ie JR. Suite). There was no claim of being able to book only if space was available. In fact I booked 5 nights months before the cruise on the cruise planner. Now on board I booked an extra night one day, and they had to check that there was space, but that would be no different than showing up at Chops without having a reservation.
