i will be using this plan for the first time on my International cruise next week.

- will it cover at sea calls or will I be charged higher rates?

- is there a way to avoid receiving marketing / junk calls?

I was only able to use Verizon on Caribbean islands (you don't say where you are traveling, so I'm guessing) that had Verizon service, not all do. There is no wireless phone service on the ship once it leaves port.

You can however, use the cabin phone to call the continental US States for $1.99/minute.

As far as avoiding marketing/junk calls - if that technology existed, everyone would employ it at all times. You wouldn’t be charged for calls unless you pick up so best strategy is not to pick up on a call from a number you don’t recognize.
