KarimaJ Posted February 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Has anyone heard of people getting parasites from swimming at the Blue Hole? Maybe I'm paranoid and watch too much Monsters Inside Me, but I also read that freshwater in Jamaica does have these parasites/worms. I have only been able to find 1 person in a forum reporting getting sick from river tubing (after peeing in the river which he was told not to do). What say you???? Thanks :)
Pops, Esq. Posted February 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Never heard of it being an issue. That doesn’t mean it isn’t, it just means I haven’t seen it mentioned on these boards. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare crewsweeper Posted February 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Nothing on TA either. But I did see a post about possible parasites if tubing the White River. Seems you're told by guides NOT to urinate in the water.
KarimaJ Posted February 12, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Nothing on TA either. But I did see a post about possible parasites if tubing the White River. Seems you're told by guides NOT to urinate in the water. You probably saw the same thing I did. That is why you’re not supposed to be urinating, in case things get in. Ugh... Domergirl Posted February 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2018 We swam at the Blue Hole and went river tubing. No parasites for us! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

MsOne Posted March 20, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 20, 2018 I felt like they were healing waters. Only thing unusual was how well my knee has been compared to the last 20 years (with the exception of when I had a cortisone shot). Up and down the stairs is a brand new me. Run a mile or more at 4.0 and 4.5 incline on my treadmill. Before going, was taking the stairs one at a time. So God is the healer but He definitely lead me there. sticklec Posted April 8, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 8, 2018 I know it's been a while, but on a previous cruise in 2014, we did Blue Hole and the river tubing down the White River and we didn't have any issues. I laughed about the peeing in the river b/c when we did the tubing we came across a couple of young boys actually bathing (with soap) in the river. Almost felt like we were intruding but they just waved at us and we kept going...lol
DarkJedi Posted April 14, 2018 #11 Share Posted April 14, 2018 Did Blue Hole and tubing last year, no issues for DW or I. Probably would not do the tubing again, but I am from FL, so a slow ride down a river is not very exciting. Blue Hole, would do again in a heartbeat.
