Power adapter for Baltic Cruise Question

Recommended Posts

I have a Travel Inspira Universal power adapter. I read a thread today where this might be taken from me because it is surge suppressed. Is there anywhere in the Baltic a European plug adapter like this < https://www.amazon.com/Ckitze-Europe-Travel-Power-Adapter/dp/B001EB26MO > would not work? I probably only need it in Stockholm and Copenhagen (beggining and end of cruise)but would be nice if it worked in the other ports of call, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Also, does anyone know if I'll have trouble with my USB hub? < https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M2UNX0T/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 >

Can someone please explain the issue with having a universal adapter with surge protection? Why is this a problem for the cruise? I’ve never heard of this before.

Surge protection is for land based facilities. Ships electronic wiring is completely different in design. According to a frequent poster on cruise critic Chengpk75 (who is a ship board engineer) nothing else on the ship is protected by a "surge suppression" device because of the fire dangers they can cause. There is even a USCG directive about these devices.

I'm so glad I saw this thread. I recently purchased this https://www.amazon.com/Ceptics-World-Travel-Adapter-Kit/dp/B06XSJ14CX/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522066313&sr=8-3&keywords=ceptics+world+travel+adapter+kit+-+2+usb+%2B+2+us+outlets&dpID=41Blbm55FPL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch to use for our days precruise in Amsterdam. The description states that it has built in surge protection so does this mean it will be an issue to have it in my luggage when we board the cruise ship (wasn't planning to use it on the ship, just in Amsterdam)? Thanks in advance for the help!

They will probably take it off you and give it back at the end of the cruise.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I didn't ask the question properly. The primary question is whether the plug adapters shown in the first link < https://www.amazon.com/Ckitze-Europe.../dp/B001EB26MO > will work in all the ports we will be hitting (Stockholm, Copenhagen, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). I read that Denmark and Finland use a different standard but it looks like for an un-grounded device should work anyway.

Staying in Stockholm before cruise and Copenhagen after. Also would like to have an adapter available while touring in case I need to charge a phone.

Everyone should probably have a device like this when traveling. Mine is different in that it will charge more devices, but I still carry one wherever I go.

I also make sure they are always charged at home. That way when the power goes out,,, I've got my phone and iPad to keep me going.

Yes, that is the sort of thing I meant! Some types you charge up at home and some you put AA batteries into.

OK, thanks all, yes hotel will lend and yes, I have several power banks and may even take one with me. In any event, can anyone answer my question, will a standard European C style adapter work in Denmark and/ or Finland?

Thanks Klfrodo. The Rick Steves link was particularly helpful.

:) Glad it worked for you. The Finland link had me confused, that's why I added an adapter kit link. My wife and I have multiple Type C since they work on the ship also to take advantage of that 1 additional outlet, but we also have the multi adapter kit.
